Pasadena Councilmember Suggests Annexing Altadena into Pasadena after Eaton Fires Devastation 2025

Taken from an email sent out by councilmember Tyron Hampton.

This is verbatim per the email sent.

While this make sense on the surface and some may be in favor, is now the time to create more disruption?  Or is this a way to build better?  There are pros and cons I am sure and many who are lifelong Altadena residents would be vehemently opposed to this idea, while others who are dealing with the issues mentioned in the email, would be open to the idea.

The issue would remain that the threat and proximity to the mountains and the intensifying climate conditions will persist.

Beginning of email sent to those who subscribe to Councilmember Hampton’s email on January 16, 2025

City Council
First District
Dear First District Neighbors & FriendsToday was yet another busy day filled with engaging conversations with neighbors and discussions with city officials and organizations that have been invaluable during this challenging time.

While I’ve been out in the community, I’ve had the chance to speak with residents from Altadena. Many of them have raised important questions, such as: How did this situation arise? Am I your representative? Who should you reach out to? When can you expect to start rebuilding? Given everything they’ve experienced, I strive to provide as much assistance as I can, while recognizing that my authority primarily pertains to Pasadena. Fortunately, we have outstanding representatives, including our county supervisor, who is always available to support us. However, one intriguing question has surfaced repeatedly. About seven years ago, I approached the city council about the possibility of annexing a portion of Altadena surrounding the Floricita neighborhood, as this area is officially within Pasadena’s district. However, due to the United States Postal Service’s decision in the 1960s to assign Altadena addresses to these locations for easier mail delivery, the change was made. In light of the collective challenges faced by our communities, I think it’s worth examining the advantages and disadvantages of annexing Altadena.

Currently, the City of Pasadena provides water and other municipal services to over 6,000 residents and businesses beyond its borders.

The Pasadena Fire Department was among the first responders at the Eden Canyon fire.

A conservative estimate suggests that if residents leave our community, the Pasadena Unified School District could see a 10% decline in enrollment, which would significantly impact the services available to students in our area.

Economically, Altadena is home to over 40,000 residents who either have stopped supporting our local businesses or may do so in the future. Losing this customer base would be detrimental, as around 15-25% of our sales tax revenue comes from Altadena residents’ purchases.

I am confident that Pasadena will do everything possible to ensure that homes are repaired and restored swiftly for our residents. With the backing of our council, we will advocate for Altadena as well. If Altadena were to become part of Pasadena—while retaining its name, of course—I believe our city could expedite the rebuilding process by a year or two, leveraging our expertise and experience.

Additionally, when considering municipal services, Pasadena’s water and power systems are far more reliable. The water delivery infrastructure in Altadena has been severely compromised by the recent fires, and many local water businesses were already struggling financially. Currently, they are without customers.

I mention this because I feel the City of Pasadena has a responsibility to weigh the pros and cons of annexing Altadena and potentially uniting our communities as one.

I also received an email regarding issues with grocery delivery services like Uber Eats and Amazon Fresh. If you’re facing challenges with your grocery deliveries, Pasadena’s IT department is reaching out to these platforms to notify them that we are out of the mandatory evacuation zone and request that they resume service to Pasadena.

Sending blessings your way! There were many other events today, but this particular topic seemed worthy of discussion for all of us in Pasadena.

With love and appreciation, I look forward to connecting with everyone in the community. This isn’t a quick journey; it’s a marathon. We have much work ahead of us…

Blessings, Praying for everyone safety

The Fires That Ravaged Los Angeles 2025 – The Catastrophe after the Catastrophe – Pasadena Altadena #eatonfire

Many have been to refer to the aftermath of one of the worse disasters in American history and what we will be facing as “The Catastrophe after the Catastrophe”

From the water to the soil to the air, the cleanup complexity with countless hazardous toxins in the environment being released during the fire and afterwards.

There are so many aspects of this that if not handled properly could impact the health of millions.

One example was the compromised water wells for Pasadena, as the fire raged on the City of Pasadena Water and Power (PWP) issued a DO NOT DRINK for the water.

Under no circumstance should the water be consumed. Then a day or two later the water was deemed ok to use for bathing and washing dishes, then a day or two later it was apparently back only through the work of PWP the systems came back online and the water was tested and found to be drinkable again.

But, the test results as promised by city officials had not been released.  Residents of Pasadena should demand from the city that those results be posted.

What results are available and when the test had been conducted. Also results for testing prior to Jan 7, 2025.

A full account of the damage to the water supply should also be demanded.

The other concern is that related to the water in the lines, was that ok to consume or was that compromised as well?

Pasadena serves a large number of water customers and many are still drinking bottled water, while some are still under the DO NOT DRINK WATER advisory.

When and if the city releases the results of the water testing, that is the question.  After requesting the results several times and having the GM and the parties responsible copied, they have not responded.

I will keep trying, but it is disappointing that what was promised was not made available.   There are many questions as to how things have been handled.

Eaton Fire Experience So Far in Pasadena Altadena #eatonfire

The catastrophe that took place in Altadena and Pasadena on January 7, 2025, and continued to destroy complete blocks of homes into the thousands with human lives, animals, vehicles, and many businesses who are burned to ruble.

Having experienced the event from less than a mile and in fact only a block away there are homes that are destroyed. Burned with only chimneys standing.

We personally know several people who lost everything and are in the process of trying to figure out what comes next.

Insurance, FEMA, County of Los Angeles aid, State of California, Altadena and Pasadena organizations pooling together to provide assistance.

Where do people start.

The first place seems to be going online and filing with FEMA making sure to go to the right site and filing out as much as possible. And then following up.

Contact your local elected officials for assistance.  Ask friends and family for assistance.

Contact your insurance company if you have insurance.

Review your subscriptions and bills so that you cancel anything you will not need as you try to figure things out.

You may be able to cancel or suspend gas, electricity, water, trash, internet, cable tv, etc..  You can also contact these and other companies and let them know you are in a declared disaster zone.

In this time of crises the hope is that people will remain calm and do the right thing. We also have had reports of looting and numerous arrests, those taking advantage of people who have had to evacuate with the clothes on their back and do not know if they still have a home. Not being allowed back into their neighborhood because it is far too dangerous. Dangerous with fallen trees, wires, and still smoldering remains of the fires.  Dangerous to enter properties.

Then there’s the other large fire in the Los Angeles area, the Palisades fire which has also destroyed thousands of homes with people dead and catastrophic apocalyptic destruction.

HP Toner Issues with Non HP Toner

It appears that HP has figured out a way to keep non-HP toner from working in HP printers.

Call it toner gate or something else, but basically HP has monopolized the use of toner cartridges in their printers to be exclusively HP.

If you look on sites that sell non-hp toner, most of the newer toners that require a chip do not work.

Looking on sites like Staples you see in the reviews that the compatible toners do not work.

City of Burbank Launches Preapproved Accessory Dwelling Unit Program

City of Burbank Launches Preapproved Accessory Dwelling Unit Program

Burbank, CA (December 18, 2024) – The City of Burbank’s Community Development Department has launched the Burbank Preapproved Accessory Dwelling Unit Program (BPAP). This program offers residents access to a library of preapproved Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) plans, streamlining the permitting process by significantly reducing the permit issuance timeframe and making it easier for residents to build ADUs in the community.

The City has created a library consisting of ADU designs that have been reviewed and approved by city staff to ensure compliance with Burbank’s Building and Municipal Codes, including one of its own that staff created. These preapproved plans are ready-to-use and aim to expedite the permitting process by eliminating the need for architectural, structural, life safety, and energy compliance plan checks during review.

Residents, architects, engineers, and designers can learn more about the BPAP program or enroll by visiting the BPAP program webpage or contacting the Community Development Department’s Building Permits and Plan Check Division at 818-238-5220.

Upgrading Your Windows Computer ?

Upgrading Your Windows Computer and need a tool to transfer your files to the new computer?
Unlike Mac OS upgrading your computer on Windows is not as easy as it is with the Mac OS. The Migration Assistant on Mac OS is one of the many reasons the Mac OS system is so well liked by so many. Upgrading your Mac OS and iOS devices is a breeze with the tools provided by Apple.
Why Microsoft doesn’t have a tool like this is somewhat perplexing. But there are tools that claim to offer a seamless migration of your files to new hardware.
