Art lovers, donors, and collectors from throughout Southern California will gather to support USC PAM and the arts. This year’s theme, “Celebrating the Future and Honoring the Past,” highlights the upcoming special exhibition Royal Taste: The Art of Princely Courts in 15th Century China, opening February 2016, and commemorates two key Museum leaders who passed away this year: founding board president Margaret “Peg” Palmer (1915–2015) and founding director Lennox Tierney (1914–2015).

All proceeds benefit the USC Pacific Asia Museum’s exhibitions and programs.

Latest Update:
The USC Pacific Asia Museum is pleased to announce that celebrated classical pianist Rueibin Chen will be the featured performer at their 38th Annual Festival of the Autumn Moon Gala on October 3, 2015.

Rueibin Chen‘s distinguished career as a renowned pianist has earned him a reputation for technical brilliance, immense energy, and intense artistic expression. He was the opening soloist at the 2010 World Expo in China, performing the “Yellow River Concerto,” which critics hailed as the best performance of the iconic piece in its history. In 2014 he performed with Los Angeles Philharmonic at the Hollywood Bowl, and earlier this summer he performed with Orange County’s Pacific Symphony at Irvine Meadows Amphitheatre. The Boston Globe has said, “He plays with the white-hot energy, steel-fingered power and athletic virtuosity.” A Chinese Austrian born in Taiwan, Chen won a total of eighteen medals in various international piano competitions—five of them gold—before the age of twenty.

California Gov. Jerry Brown Vetoes Assembly Bill 210 Off Peak Hours Use of Carpool Lanes

California Gov. Jerry Brown Vetoes Assembly Bill 210 Off Peak Hours Use of Carpool Lanes

Gov Jerry Brown has vetoed AB 210, where carpool lanes on the Ventura Freeway and Foothill Freeway would be available during non-rush hours to all commuters, much like is currently done in Northern California.

The reason why Gov. Brown vetoed this bill is someone confusing, Brown was wrote:

I continue to believe that carpool lanes are especially important in Los Angeles County to reduce pollution and maximize the use of freeways.

To the Members of the California State Assembly:

I am returning Assembly Bill 210 without my signature.

The bill limits the 24/7 carpool lane controls on specified segments of the 134 and 210 freeways in Los Angeles to the hours of heavy commuter traffic.

I vetoed a nearly identical bill last session. I continue to believe that carpool lanes are especially important in Los Angeles County to reduce pollution and maximize the use of freeways. Therefore, we should continue to retain the current 24/7 carpool lane control.

Sincerely,
Edmund G. Brown Jr.

Is this not working in Northern California?

Considering how bad traffic can get in Southern California it seemed to make sense to allow all drivers to utilize the carpool lanes during off peak hours, when the lanes are underutilized. It seems logical to allow the use of these lanes during non-peak hours.

Perhaps Gov. Brown was confused.  And now we hear that Assemblyman Mike Gatto, from Los Angeles who received unanimous vote in the State Senate, 34-0.  You can read more here on AB 210.

With AB 210 carpool lanes would not be diminished in value they would be better utilized by allow those with the proper permits to use the carpool lanes.  If Gov Brown vetoed because of the confusion, just think of what the toll lanes do to motorist, that seems like a nightmare for commuters who may want to use the HOV TOLL lanes, with the hybrid pricing model where occupants determine how much you pay.
