The catastrophe that took place in Altadena and Pasadena on January 7, 2025, and continued to destroy complete blocks of homes into the thousands with human lives, animals, vehicles, and many businesses who are burned to ruble.
Having experienced the event from less than a mile and in fact only a block away there are homes that are destroyed. Burned with only chimneys standing.
We personally know several people who lost everything and are in the process of trying to figure out what comes next.
Insurance, FEMA, County of Los Angeles aid, State of California, Altadena and Pasadena organizations pooling together to provide assistance.
Where do people start.
The first place seems to be going online and filing with FEMA making sure to go to the right site and filing out as much as possible. And then following up.
Contact your local elected officials for assistance. Ask friends and family for assistance.
Contact your insurance company if you have insurance.
Review your subscriptions and bills so that you cancel anything you will not need as you try to figure things out.
You may be able to cancel or suspend gas, electricity, water, trash, internet, cable tv, etc.. You can also contact these and other companies and let them know you are in a declared disaster zone.
In this time of crises the hope is that people will remain calm and do the right thing. We also have had reports of looting and numerous arrests, those taking advantage of people who have had to evacuate with the clothes on their back and do not know if they still have a home. Not being allowed back into their neighborhood because it is far too dangerous. Dangerous with fallen trees, wires, and still smoldering remains of the fires. Dangerous to enter properties.
Then there’s the other large fire in the Los Angeles area, the Palisades fire which has also destroyed thousands of homes with people dead and catastrophic apocalyptic destruction.
