CicLAvia – Pasadena Presented by Metro
Music, Art and Cirque du Soleil Highlight May 31 CicLAvia – Pasadena
Cozy Route Lends Itself to Festival Atmosphere for Bike and Pedestrian Participants
LOS ANGELES–Pasadena will host the largest car-free open streets event in America for the first time when CicLAvia – Pasadena Presented by Metro takes place from 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 31. Participants will use foot, pedal and non-motorized wheel power to explore the city. The event route will connect to the Memorial and Del Mar Metro Gold Line Stations enabling participants to have a car-free or car-lite day.
CicLAvia – Pasadena Presented by Metro is the most walkable CicLAvia to date at 3.5 miles. The cozy distance will offer participants the opportunity to peruse and explore Pasadena’s business gems and cultural treasures. The main route of Colorado Boulevard will have spurs on Raymond Avenue and Lake Avenue to take participants to local parks. A route map can be found here.
Participants can delve deeper into the route by enjoying CicLAvia’s Pasadena Neighborhood Guide, written by Andrea Richards and designed by Colleen Corcoran. Readers will discover that several buildings in Pasadena’s historic core, the area known as Old Pasadena, are directly related to a turn-of-the-20th-century bicycling craze. In fact, almost half a century before the Arroyo Freeway, there were plans to connect Los Angeles to Pasadena via an elevated bicycle path. The guide can be downloaded here.
CicLAvia’s new partner, Cirque du Soleil, will have a dedicated entertainment area on the eastern portion of the route at a parking lot at 1336 E. Colorado Blvd. promoting their newest touring Big Top show: KURIOS – Cabinet of Curiosities™, which will debut in Southern California this fall. The KURIOS space will include the chance for participants to make stop-motion videos which will place them on the silver screen.
In addition to the Cirque du Soleil location, there will be four CicLAvia hubs, which offer CicLAvia information and merchandise, bike parking and bike repair, free water, restrooms and first aid stations. Each hub will also have entertainment, sponsor booths and more. And, for the first time, CicLAvia is offering free pedi-cab rides between two of the hubs on Raymond Avenue (Old Pasadena and Memorial Park), sponsored by Walden School.

CicLAvia – Pasadena Presented by Metro is the second CicLAvia event in 2015. The remaining two events are CicLAvia – Culver City Meets Venice Presented by Metro (August 9) and CicLAvia – Heart of LA (October 18).
The funding for the Pasadena and Culver City is provided primarily by the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro) as part of a $4 million Open Streets grant that was awarded to municipalities throughout Southern California to sponsor car-free events in 2014-2016.
The program allocates $2 million annually for these types of events within L.A. County. The program seeks to increase sustainable transportation mode share, including transit, bicycle and pedestrian trips, create opportunities for first time transit usage, and encourage cities to develop multi-modal polices. Other benefits include economic, public health benefits and opportunities to highlight and promote cultural resources.
CicLAvia has held 12 open streets events since 2010 and is recognized as being a world leader in transforming streets into temporary urban parks. Hundreds of thousands of people have participated in CicLAvia as they connect with their communities, businesses, healthy activity and each other in a way that isn’t possible by car.

This is the text message that is causing Apple users so many problems:
“Power لُلُصّبُلُلصّبُررً ॣ ॣh ॣ ॣ 冗”
It’s a bug within the Notification System. After a few trials, I found that the phone only resets when the message is received as a drop down notification or in the lock screen.
If the user is viewing their conversations list or is viewing the conversation with the individual who is sending it the phone will not reset.
Your iPhone will shut off. You will restart it and it will start short-cycling the restart process. Then:
– restart the phone by pressing and holding down the home & power button
– keep holding until the screen goes black
– restart the phone again, if it did not already
– once phone starts, delete the offending message
– resist the urge to return the favor of whoever sent it
Apple advises the following to avoid the problem until they update the iOS:
– “Users can avoid the problem by turning off text previews on the lock screen.”
If the user is in another conversation and receives the message (it will be a drop down) it will reset the phone.
If your iPhone is getting bombarded with the new Unicode crash message, do this:
Settings>Notifications>Messages>Show Previews⇒OFF
If you receive the problem text message, send a regular text message back to the user, and you should then be able to view the other text messages.
UPDATE, May 27, 12:45 p.m. ET: Apple said in a statement that it was aware of the issue and would make a fix for the bug available in a software update.
It will be interesting to watch how long it takes Apple to release the fix.
This looks like a very good event for a good cause.

Spice Factory Pasadena Closed – Eviction Notice on Door
It appears that as of May 21, 2015, Spice Factory on Fair Oaks in Old Pasadena has closed.
There are still various deal sites offering specials, I would verify that the business is still open, but according to the eviction notice and the looks of the place being cleared out on a Saturday evening, it doesn’t look good for Spice Factory in Old Pasadena being open.

Charter and Time Warner have agreed to terms of cash-and-stock deal valuing Time Warner Cable at $195 a share, sources.
The acquisition by Charter, which is backed by Mr. Malone’s Liberty Broadband Corp. , would make Charter the second largest U.S. broadband and pay-television companies with 23 million customers vs Comcast with 27 million.
Would the acquisition of Time Warner by Charter mean that those Charter subscribers in Los Angeles would be able to see Dodger games? We would assume so, but details are forthcoming, and the deal is just be announced so we would expect more details over the next few days, weeks and months.
Needs Federal and State approval.
We’ve all be waiting for it…
and it’s finally here…
