News comes from the organizers of Make Music Pasadena. A fabulous free event that is attracts thousands of people to various parts of the city.
Make Music Pasadena is an all-day all-ages FREE annual music festival, organized by Old Pasadena Management District and Playhouse District Association.
There are other music festivals, but this is likely one of the largest free festivals around.
It is unfortunate that sponsors could not step and even organizers of the Arroyo Seco Weekend would not be willing to sponsor at least a stage or two of the festival to promote Arroyo Seco Weekend, $150,000 is a drop in the bucket for a multibillion dollar organization like AEG, which makes millions from Coachella and StageCoach in April.
With Arroyo Seco Weekend schedule for June 24 & 25 weekend, tickets are on sale, and there’s no indication how many tickets have been sold, but supposedly there is a cap, as the event is taking place on the Brookside Golf Course, not inside the Rose Bowl.
We hope that Make Music Pasadena returns in 2018.
Here’s the posting on the Official Make Music Pasadena website this morning:
After nine years of bringing free music to the streets of our city with Make Music Pasadena, Old Pasadena Management District and the Playhouse District Association, co-producers of the festival, have made the difficult decision to put the event on hiatus for 2017 and to evaluate its future viability.Current funding sources are not sufficient to finance an event that is entirely free to the public. Due to exponentially rising costs in conjunction with a significant lack of funding from sponsorships and donations, Make Music Pasadena faced a $150,000 budget deficit, making it impossible to produce the festival for 2017. A proliferation of local and national music festivals has also made it a challenge to secure both talent and local media attention within a limited budget.
The producing organizations remain hopeful that sufficient sponsorship might be achieved for a 2018 event, and altruistically-inclined white knights are encouraged to contact either organization to discuss details. That’s not to say that Pasadena will be without live music this summer: We are delighted that the Arroyo Seco Weekend Festival will join in the tradition of bringing local, regional, and national acts to the people of Pasadena.

Judge Halts Big Dig Project
KPCC- “Environmentalists win temporary halt to Devil’s Gate Dam dig-out”
Pasadena Now – “Judge Halts Devil’s Gate Sediment Removal Project”
Judge James Chalfant’s ruling about the deficiencies in LA County’s Big Dig EIR for Hahamongna is a big victory for all who have helped save Hahamongna. Now the County Supervisors will have to take another look at the Flood Control District’s massive destructive project for our region’s most significant environmental zone. Hopefully they will recognize that there is a better way to manage this rare stream corridor that has broad community support and was recommended by Pasadena three years ago. A slow, steady sediment management program wil provide flood protection while preserving habitat and wildlife and reducing neighborhood impacts.
LA County Board of Supervisors is remarkablly different today than in 2014 when the Big Dig Project was approved. Then we only had one champion, Zev Yaroslavsly, to stand up for Hahahamongna and for our neighborhoods. The vote for the project was 4-1. Now the board is filled with supevisors with excellent environmental credentials and proven records as defenders of environmental treasures like Hahamongna. We are hopeful that they will reduce the negative impacts of the Flood Control District’s program and save Hahamongna for future generations. Please take action now to communicate your concerns to the Supervisors and urge them to work with ASF and Pasadena Audubon to develop a long-term, sustainable watershed management program for Hahamongna.
The Arroyo Seco Foundation is grateful to our stellar partners in the Big Dig lawsuit, Pasadena Audubon Society. Our attorneys, Mitchell Tsai and Christina Caro, have done a great job of pointing out the severe flaws in the County’s program, and we salute them!
As the news articles point out, though, the struggle to save Hahamongna is not over. We are grateful for your past support; we need your continued support. Please celebrate this very signifant victory with a donation so that we can continue our work to Save Hahamongna.
Thanks for your continuing support.
Video of the suspect involved in the bombing incident at the Cheesecake Factory in Pasadena is being released by the FBI today.
FBI page with further details on the suspect.
No injuries had been reported from the Feb 2, 2017 incident, but blast which occurred at 6:08pm at the restaurant. Some officials have called the device as related to a “firecracker”, which is similar to remarks made by Pasadena Mayor Mr. Tornek, “more related to a firecracker than a bomb,” Mr. Tornek was quoted.
This incident should be treated very seriously as it was intended to not only scare people but also harm.
According to Lt. Mark Goodman, it was not a pipe bomb, not a Molotov cocktail, had no projectiles, no shrapnel and nothing was ejected.
Has the device been shown to the public?

Pasadena Police Detectives and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Agents hope a video recording of the man who is suspected of having committed the Cheesecake Factory explosion, and a reward of up to $20,000, will prompt witnesses to come forward with the suspect’s identification.
On Thursday, February 2, 2017 at about 6:08 P.M., Pasadena Police Officers and Fire Department personnel responded to a call of an explosion at a Cheesecake Factory restaurant at 2 West Colorado Blvd. Police Officers immediately entered the restaurant and evacuated customers and employees and located a detonated homemade pyrotechnic device.

The video and photos being shown at the press conference depict the suspect wearing a white shirt but carrying black or dark clothing, which he discards in a trash can at the business.
A reward of up to $20,000 is being offered in exchange for information leading to the arrest of the person or group responsible for attack.
