How to Make Pasadena, CA a Better Place to Live

Note: These recommendations and actions could be used in most cities.

As a resident of Pasadena, CA I have witnessed the growth of the city. We are seeing a slew of new restaurants coming to the city, including Tender Greens which will be opening in the next few months. With all this development more people are moving to the city and thus we have increased traffic.

Is the city of Pasadena doing enough to address the issues related to increased traffic?

We are seeing that there is some work being done on the 210 Foothill Freeway, this is by far the most problematic traffic situation in the city. Autos coming on and off the freeway dump right into residential streets, the noise and pollution from the freeway is very concerning as the traffic increases daily.

Some other things that I would like to see the city address.

1. pedestrian cross walk enforcement – this past week as I attempted to cross on the crosswalk at Orange Grove and Hill, not the one at the light but East. Cars would race by without regard for pedestrians.  This has been a problem for many many years. Interesting enough in Altadena on North Lake, the county sheriffs do sting operations on the crosswalk at the Ralph’s Store. My wife got a ticket, and the walker was not even on the island.  You should always stop for pedestrians attempting to cross, even if they are on the opposite side of the traffic.

2. Speeding cars, Orange Grove is used as a raceway by so many motorist in Pasadena. Speed limits need to be enforced vigorously, I would venture that you would see less accidents as enforcement is increased.

3. Noise pollution – there are many types of noise pollution, from loud cars, to cars driving around with their stereos blaring.  This is a serious problem. It makes people uneasy and nervous. How do you get a good rest if there is always noise.

4. Impose strict fines for littering. People drive by our area, toss out cans and bottles. Park and sit in their cars and drink and toss out garbage. This is totally unacceptable and should be heavily fined.

5. Open House yard sale and other signs that are left up longer than a day or without permits, have you driven by Hill and Orange Grove in the last week and seen the signs on all corners? Well those are all for one house…. The person who put them up left them up for almost a week, finally most of them are gone, but that should also be cause for a fine.

Pasadena could do so much to improve life in the city by address the above issues.
