Abricott Pasadena Closes – Mendocino Farms Takes Over Space @MendocinoFarms @626food #MENDOEATHAPPY

After 6 years on South Lake in Pasdaena, Abricott has closed its doors as of July 1.  A local favorite known for Vietnamesse cuisine.

It is sad to see the closing of Abricott. Fig Sprout and Daisy Mint owned by the same couple who owned Abricott remains open.

We do know that there have been several closings on South Lake, most appear to be related to the rents going up at astonishing rates.

One can only wonder how the places that remain are able to stay in business, and we hope that Mendocino Farms can make a run at making the location work.  Mendocino Farms Pasadena is expected to open in the next several months.  With locations throughout southern California, Studio City and Pasadena will bring to 13 the number of locations in the local area.  Other locations planned include Carlsbad, San Francisco, Sacramento, San Ramon, and Houston.

Pasadena Updates Fireworks Ordinance And Reinforces All Fireworks Are Illegal In Pasadena – 1 Year in Jail and $50,000 Fine @pasadenagov #fireworks #fireworksfines #illegalfirework

Before you decide to light fireworks in Pasadena, CA:
Pasadena has one of the highest fines. Most other cities are $1000. How does Pasadena get the word out that illegal fireworks are not tolerated? Perhaps undercover enforcement is the best approach? At $50k per infraction, it should be a deterrent, but so far it seems that the amount if illegal fireworks are the same as previous years coming from the same neighborhoods.

Has the City of Pasadena changed the code to prosecute those who are guilty?

It does not appear that the Municipal Code has been updated to include the updated possible fines.

Pasadena Updates Fireworks Ordinance And Reinforces All Fireworks Are Illegal In Pasadena

PASADENA, Calif.— The City of Pasadena recently amended the municipal code holding property owners and tenants responsible for permitting the possession, sale, usage or discharge of fireworks on their property. The ordinance change allows for the prosecution of fireworks-related offenses and for the demand of of payment for all costs associated with the safe disposal of confiscated fireworks. The City maintains a zero tolerance enforcement policy for fireworks and Pasadena’s police and firefighters are teaming up for special fireworks enforcement patrols before and during the Fourth of July holiday. Violators are subject to arrest; having their vehicles impounded; and serving up to one year in jail and fines up to $50,000.

Statistics show that fireworks are among the most dangerous of all consumer products. Even hand-held sparklers, which many consider safe, are dangerous and can reach 1,200 degrees Fahrenheit, causing serious burns or fires. National Fire Protection Association statistics reveal that 90 percent of all fireworks-related injuries are caused by so-called “safe and sane” fireworks which are illegal in Pasadena.

Help keep all of us, our children, our homes and our property safe from illegal fireworks. If You See Something, Say Something! Call Pasadena Police at (626) 744-4241 to report illegal fireworks and other suspicious activities. Residents may also use the City’s smart phone app, available at www.cityofpasadena.net/csc to report illegal fireworks.

The City of Pasadena invites you to celebrate the Fourth of July responsibly and join us for the 92nd annual “Americafest,” one of the best family-friendly celebrations and professional fireworks shows in Southern California at the Rose Bowl Stadium. For ticket and event information, please visit www.rosebowlstadium.com.

Due to the potential for fire hazards and injuries, Pasadena police and fire personnel will staff checkpoints around the stadium to search for and seize any fireworks. Parking enforcement officers will ensure that vehicles illegally parked in Pasadena’s hillside areas on July 4th are impounded.

The Pasadena Fire Department will be applying Phos-Chek on Monday, July 2nd to brush areas around the Arroyo area. The main ingredients of this fire retardant are phosphates and fertilizers to help prevent plants from burning and to re-vegetate burned wildland areas.

Pasadena’s Fire Chief Bertral Washington, Interim Police Chief John Perez and Public Health Officer Dr. Ying-Ying Goh urge everyone to make safety their top priority and offer the following reminders:

Celebrate responsibly and always designate a driver.
Stay hydrated, drink water or other nutritious fluids before becoming thirsty; limit alcohol & sugary drinks.
If outdoors, remember to use sunscreen, wear a brimmed hat and seek shade, if needed.
Fight the Bite, use bug spray/repellant to protect against mosquitoes.
Many areas of the City, including outdoor areas, are designated as “No Smoking” zones. Smoking anything in “No Smoking” areas is strictly prohibited. Always make sure that whatever you smoke in an official smoking area is fully extinguished before disposing in an appropriate trash container.
Always have someone tending the barbecue and watching the swimming pool when in use.
Call 9-1-1 for all life-threatening emergencies.
Call (626) 744-4241 for all other public safety needs.
When calling for help, speak calmly, give accurate location information.

Did you know that salsa is the #1 condiment in the United States? Our love for the good stuff starts way back in 1807, when the first hot sauce, made with cayenne peppers, was bottled and sold in Massachusetts. Over the past 200 hundred years, Americans have grown to love the condiment, with the market really exploding in the 1980’s, where salsa sales grew 79%. Ever since then, the United States has loved all different variations of salsa- from roasted tomatillos to chunky, hot pico de gallo.

SALSA DICTIONARY:

Ever wondered how many different kinds of salsas there are? Here’s a breakdown of a few that you’ll taste at the Salsa Festival:

  • Salsa Roja – “Red sauce” is used as a condiment in Mexican and Southwestern cuisines, and is usually made up of cooked tomatoes, chili peppers, onion, garlic, and fresh cilantro.
  • Pico de gallo – “Rooster’s beak” is made with raw tomatoes, lime juice, chiles, onions, cilantro, and many other chopped raw ingredients, depending on the variation.
  • Salsa Verde – “Green sauce” is usually made with cooked tomatillos.
  • Salsa Negra – “Black sauce” is a Mexican sauce made from dried chiles, oil and garlic.
  • Salsa Taquera – “Taco sauce” is made with tomatillos and morita chilis.
  • Salsa Ranchera – “Ranch-style sauce” is made with roasted tomatoes, an assortment of chiles and spices and is typically served warm. Salsa ranchera tends to have a thicker, richer quality.
  • Salsa Brava – “Wild sauce” is a milder spiced sauce made up of tomatoes, garlic, onion, vinegar, and paprika. It is often found served with potato wedges and to make dishes such as patatas bravas, a staple in tapas bars.
  • Mole – A Mexican sauce made from chiles with a mixture of spices, chocolate, almonds, and other ingredients. Mole’s can vary widely in color and taste, depending on the cook.

Be sure to visit the Salsa Tasting Tent to try a wide assortment of different and delicious salsas!

Consumer Reports – Don’t let Robocallers off the hook #robocallers #spam #solicitors

Just received this email on robocallers. The problem is getting much worse, where most people will not answer calls unless they are certain it is someone they know. still robocallers are spoofing numbers which appear as numbers in our local area, and numbers that you may even recognize,  And when you call this number back it is some person that has no idea what happened.  The level of accountability with these sorts of activities is unacceptable. There is no accountability and it must be stopped. Robocallers and solicitors must be held accountable fined to the full extent so that it is stopped.

We have an epidemic of invasive robocalls on our hands — and the problem could get worse. More and more robocalls are being made year after year. The last thing we need is for the legal protections we do have to be stripped away.

Federal regulators are weighing new rules to say what robocallers can and can’t do. If they issue narrow protections, consumers could be faced with a new barrage of auto-dials from debt collectors, telemarketers, and scammers. That’s why today we’re asking all our Consumer Reports members to submit a comment to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) in favor of more consumer protections against these unwanted calls.

Add your comment to tell the FCC we want the strongest possible protections from invasive robocalls.

Send comments »

Here’s what we’re asking the FCC to do:

  • Make sure that all of the equipment currently being used to send autodialed calls today gets classified as an “autodialer.”
  • Ensure contractors working for the government are covered by the robocall laws.
  • Issue strong rules reining in the relentless calls from debt collectors who are working on behalf of the federal government.
  • Ensure that consumers can easily revoke their consent to receiving robocalls at any time.
  • Set up a reassigned number database to prevent “wrong number” robocalls.

Can you join us in submitting a comment to the FCC? Click here to take action now.

These calls aren’t just a nuisance. They cost American consumers hundreds of millions of dollars and plenty of wasted time. It’s time for the FCC to take serious action to strike a blow against these unwanted calls.

If you agree, forward this email to as many friends and family as possible so we can collect more comments to send to the FCC. Let’s make sure they hear our voices.
