City of Pasadena Celebrates Grand Reopening of Robinson Park Recreation Center

January 22, 2019News Releases

PASADENA, Calif.—The public is invited to the grand reopening of Robinson Park Recreation Center (RPRC), 1081 N. Fair Oaks Ave., on Saturday, January 26, from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. The event will begin with a ceremonial ribbon cutting and will continue with tours of the new state-of-the-art facility, free demonstration classes, and light refreshments.

“We are excited to return high-quality recreation programming for all ages and abilities to Robinson Park Recreation Center. Recreation programming improves neighborhood quality of life and well-being, strengthens public safety and brings people together. We look forward to welcoming the community back to the Center and to our programming,” says Department of Human Services and Recreation Director Brenda Harvey-Williams.

Seasonal activities planned for the RPRC include arts and crafts, dance, adult fitness classes, yoga, summer day camp, aquatics, and youth enrichment classes, such as guitar and drawing, and much more. For more information about current programming or to register, visit cityofpasadena.net/humanservices.

The Robinson Park Recreation Center Renovation Project began construction in May 2017 and included the demolition and reconstruction of the Recreation Center’s approximately 9,000-square-foot multipurpose room, administrative offices, kitchen, open courtyard, restrooms, and conference room as well as an approximately 4,900-square-foot addition of fitness and dance rooms, storage, and common areas. The building is fully accessible and includes energy-efficient lighting, audio-visual technology and security upgrades, and new drought-tolerant landscaping. In addition to the Recreation Center improvements, the existing 7,300-square-foot gymnasium at Robinson Park underwent renovations that included extensive structural upgrades, aesthetic improvements, and the installation of a new hardwood court.

Verizon To Offer Robocall Blocking Tool for Free

Kudos to Verizon for being the first major wireless provider to offer a tool that can combat robocallers. The pace of robocallers has progressively worsened over the past year. Most people don’t answer calls they do not recognize, as it is most likely a robocaller. The amount of calls being made by these operators worldwide is in the millions of calls. In hopes that even a small percentage of those being called answer and engage and fall for the scam.

Verizon has implemented on its network the new technology labelled STIR/SHAKEN STIR (Secure Telephone Identity Revisited) and SHAKEN (Signature-based Handling of Asserted information using toKENs) standards

Del Pueblo Brewery is among a few craft breweries to operate in Pasadena, including Craftsman brewing. Stone has a tap room in Pasadena, but does not have brewing operations in Pasadena. There are rumors of others working on opening locations in Pasadena, including the Playhouse District. What sets Del Pueblo apart is that it will be the first brewery with taproom having beer served at the location.

Many welcome this development in Pasadena as many surrounding cities are welcome to those opening breweries, including Glendale, Burbank, Sierra Madre, Monrovia, Eagle Rock, San Gabriel, Alhambra, El Monte, all of which have at least one if not several breweries serving beer to eager customers looking to support a craft beer in their local community.

Ring Video Footage Not Secure or Encrypted

Millions of homes are equipped with Ring security systems and reports have been released with evidence that employees of Ring have access to video footage. And to make matters worse, video is not encrypted and is also available by folders and customer emails.

Not encrypting video or accounts is surely a bad sign for Ring, the rational given is that the cost was too high.

Many users are now looking at alternatives and trying to figure out what Ring is going to do to repair the damage done, perhaps video has already been downloaded.

We surely expect Ring will make a formal announcement on this issue. Silence is surely not going to be acceptable to users of Ring. Amazon owns Ring. Amazon head Jeff Bezos is under scrutiny for an alleged affair with Lauren Sanchez and divorcing his wife of 25 years.

Ring recently announced a new improved line of products at CES, apparently none address the vulnerabilities.

We sincerely hope that Ring addresses this issues brought about through the various reports.

Perhaps this is an opportunity for Google’s Nest, to strike on the shortcomings of the Ring platform and capitalize revenue opportunities.
