44th Occasional Pasadena Doo Dah Parade Back by Popular Demand – Sunday, November 19, 2023

44th Occasional Pasadena Doo Dah Parade

Back by Popular Demand

WHAT: Pasadena, CA (August 28, 2023) – The Occasional Pasadena Doo Dah Parade celebrates 44 years of irreverent frolicking, returning to its original route in Old Pasadena on Sunday, November 19. This year’s event is co-produced by Light Bringer Project and the Doo Dah Preservation Society.

Taking to the streets will be dozens of inventive, if zany, art cars, mutant vehicles, marching, rocking, and punk bands, and a memorable cast of performance artists, showstoppers, hoofers and crooners, disruptors, political pundits, satirists, absurdists, lone wolves, float makers, and merrymakers.

WHEN: Doo Dah steps off at 11:00am. Immediately following the event, the official Doo Dah after-party will be held at the Old Towne Pub on North Fair Oaks Avenue.

WHERE: The parade starts at Raymond Avenue at Holly Street, heads south and turns right onto Colorado Boulevard, ending at Pasadena Avenue.

COST: As always, the event is free-of-charge to the public!

MORE INFO: Doo Dah is delighted to welcome back Art Car Garage, Flying Baby, DubRobot, the Trashion Show, Ocean Commotion, Radioactive Chicken Heads, Seenor Groucho, Devilicious, Nowman, The Church of the SubGenius, the Rock ‘n Roll Preservation Society, and the Highland Park Thursday Evening’s Society Circuit Bending Marching Band and Ladies’ Auxiliary, just to name a few. We’re thrilled to welcome newcomers the BLOW Brass Marching Band, Fig & Friends, Indigo Bruise punk band, Dressed to Kill KISS tribute band, Urf McGurf, Kittylicious, To the Moon Stinky Feet, Papparazzi Patty, the LA Breakfast Club’s Democracy of Ham an’ Eggs, Head Nurses for Safe Sex, The People’s Banana, Estilo Scissor Hands, Vick & the Lassoed Hick, Cali’s Tots, and the League of Women Voters of the Pasadena Area’s Get Out the Vote. And… not a rose will be harmed in the making of this parade!

Yes, another Doo Dah is here to help you forget your humdrum existence!

DOO DAH QUEEN TRYOUTS: Pasadena Doo Dah Queen wannabes will have their chance to win the crown at the Doo Dah Queen Tryouts on Sunday, October 8 at the Old Towne Pub. Check the website for more information.

EVEN MORE INFO: Known as the twisted sister of the conventional Rose Parade, the Occasional Pasadena Doo Dah Parade began as a grassroots event in 1978 to gain national attention for its eccentric and, often, irreverent satire. The parade which has spawned numerous off-beat replicants across the country was highlighted in 2015 in the Wall Street Journal. It was also named “America’s Best Parade” by Readers Digest, and was featured in the book 50 Places You Must Visit Before You Die. To recount the fascinating and confusing history of Pasadena Doo Dah Parade since 1978, please visit our website’s ARCHIVES page. Anyone wishing to participate, visit our website or call!

PARKING: Come early! Plenty of street parking is available on side streets. Multiple public parking lots and garages are available within Old Pasadena.

PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION: The LA Metro’s Gold Line’s Memorial Park station brings you right to the parade formation area. Pasadena Transit bus lines come directly to the area. Consider bicycling or Ubering!

OFFICIAL AFTER-PARTY: Old Towne Pub, 66 N. Fair Oaks Ave., with live music (bands and times coming soon). Enter through the alley at 39 E. Holly St. No cover!

Tropical Storm Advisory for Los Angeles County

TROPICAL STORM ADVISORY FOR LOS ANGELES COUNTY

The National Weather Service is forecasting the potential for heavy rains, localized flooding, and tropical storm force winds for the greater Los Angeles County region, beginning early Sunday, August 20th through Monday, August 21st. The Rosemead Public Safety Department is actively monitoring the potential impact from Tropical Storm Hilary and is encouraging residents to begin preparations for periods of heavy rain, strong winds, and the possibility of power outages during this storm event.

Tropical storm force winds can have a significant impact and cause damage. Fallen trees and flying debris are the most common occurrences when there are high winds, as well as power outages. Remember to stay away from downed power lines and electrical wires. Please be sure to have flashlights with extra batteries since power restoration may take time. Do not attempt to drive or walk through flooded areas. Residents are encouraged to make additional preparations like having several days of food and water in the event of a prolonged power outage.

Please report any downed trees, power lines, or other storm related emergencies in Rosemead as follows:

  • To report issues related to down or unsafe power lines, damaged poles, or traffic light outages, please contact the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department – Temple Station at (626) 285-7171;
  • To report downed trees on a public right-of-way, please contact the Rosemead Public Works Department at (626) 569-2262; and
  • For power outage information, please contact Southern California Edison at (800) 611-1911. To view a list of safety tips Southern California Edison recommends for high wind conditions and possible outages, please click here
  • For fire or medical emergencies, please dial 9-1-1.

iPhone Block Unknown Callers – Calls Still Coming Through

Not sure how this happens, but it does appear to happen.

A call from a number I do not recognize comes in and bypasses my setting to block unknown callers and rings on my phone.

Is there a way scammers are able to bypass the setting to block unknown callers?

Apparently yes.

Tesla’s NACS North American Charging Standard Sweeping EV Charging Networks @tesla

One by one Tesla’s charging connector known as NACS – North American Charging Standard is quickly being adopted by charging networks faster than EV manufacturers can update their vehicles to accept and operate with the Tesla NACS connector.
Ford, GM, Volvo,Rivian, Aptera, have all been early adopters of the standard, with some scheduled to release adapters while they retool their vehicles to operate with the NACS.
VW is still apparently considering. Audi and Porsche would fall under this move.
Mercedes, no word.
Lucid, we would be surprised if they didn’t announce something soon.
Kia and Hyundia there is no word.
Honda no word.
Nissan – no word, perhaps they are reconsidering Chademo as a better option.
Toyota no word, but we would think they would be at least considering.

On the charging side, we have seen EVGo, ChargePoint and most recently Electrify American announce support, how these networks will operate and how reliable they are is yet to be seen as they have had many reliability issues when compared to Tesla’s charging network. Tesla’s charging network the Supercharger network “just works” at least 95% of the time you will go to a Tesla SuperCharger and have little to now issues. Most of the current and possible future issues revolve around rolling out new charging stations and eliminating wait times and accessibility to charging.

As many have discovered charging on a 250kw capable charger is not always “faster” than charging on 150kw or 75kW capable charger, provided with the proper conditions i.e. state of battery charge and conditioning the battery properly you stand benefit the most from the 250kW chargers.
We expect to see faster more capable chargers coming, but as of now most chargers rolling out are v3 with some v4 being seen.
Hopefully some of the installs that are pending permitting approval and being greenlit to turn on will happen soon.
There is a sites in Ventura, CA on Telegraph Rd near the College and Denny’s.
Tesla supercharger in Burbank is now open. On Victory Blvd, behind Hobby Lobby and Aldi Market. 24 stalls and 250kW.

EV charging and EV vehicle manufactures moving to a standard proven charging platform is a win for all those involved.
