City of Pasadena COVID-19 Vaccine Update 1-6-21
COVID VACCINE UPDATES
The City of Pasadena has launched a new webpage with vaccine information to keep our community updated and provide a link for healthcare workers to learn about obtaining the vaccine. From the start of the pandemic, data and science have guided Pasadena’s response to COVID-19. That continues to be true when it comes to vaccines. Pasadena continues to distribute and administer the approved safe and effective COVID-19 vaccines as quickly as possible. Both the Pfizer and Moderna vaccine have received approval by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), require two doses, and provide similar efficacy. The Pasadena Public Health Department (PPHD) is managing the vaccine distribution and dispensing process, and will be following guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the California Department of Public Health (CDPH). PPHD is working with healthcare system partners to make vaccine access equitable and available to as many people as possible, as quickly as possible, in the order of the state prioritization.
Phases and tiers are subject to change, but currently include:
Phase 1a—Vaccinating now.
  • Healthcare Workers providing direct care and residents and staff of long-term care facilities
Phase 1b Tier One
  • People ages 75 years and over;
  • Those at risk of exposure at work in the following sectors: education, childcare, emergency services, and food and agriculture
Phase 1b Tier Two
  • People ages 65-74 years;
  • Those at risk of exposure at work in the following sectors: transportation and logistics; industrial, commercial, residential, and sheltering facilities and services; critical manufacturing
  • Congregate settings with outbreak risk: incarcerated and homeless
Phase 1c
  • Individuals 50 -64 years of age
  • People 16-64 years of age and have an underlying health condition or disability which increases their risk of severe COVID-19
  • Those at risk of exposure at work in the following sectors: water and wastewater; defense; energy; chemical and hazardous materials; communications and IT; financial services; government operations / community-based essential functions
Pasadena has a disproportionately high number of long-term care facilities per 100,000 residents, relative to neighboring jurisdictions. At PPHD’s request, 13 of Pasadena’s Skilled Nursing Facilities (SNFs) and 97 assisted living and residential care facilities enrolled in the Pharmacy Partnership for Long-term Care (LTC) Program. The program has partnered with local pharmacies that will facilitate safe vaccination of this critical patient population, while reducing the burden on LTC facilities (LTCF). At no cost to facilities, the program provides end-to-end management of the COVID-19 vaccination process, including cold chain management, on-site vaccinations, and fulfillment of reporting requirements. LTCFs are coordinating appointments with the pharmacy partners, and all SNFs are scheduled to have had at least one vaccine visit with the pharmacies by the week of January 11th. PPHD is also administering vaccines to staff of local skilled nursing and assisted living facilities and dialysis centers this week, and continues to vaccinate Pasadena Fire Department Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) and Paramedics. Partnerships with local pharmacies are also being coordinated to ensure access to vaccine for individuals who qualify for Phase 1a.
According to CDPH, vaccine is likely to be available to the general public in Spring/Summer 2021. For more information on vaccine administration and planning, visit https://www.cityofpasadena.net/public-health/covid-19-vaccine/ or call (626) 744-6000. Healthcare providers who are eligible and able to do so are encouraged to sign up to receive and provide vaccine. The provider registration portal, COVIDReadi, can be found at this link: https://ca.covidreadi.com/.

Pasadena Cameron’s Seafood Restaurant Closes @626food #covid19

After some speculation and a temporary closure after a brief reopening with outdoor dining and take out, Cameron’s Seafood Market & Restaurant has officially closed.

It is too early to know if a new owner will attempt to take over the location, but with the current state of dining, it doesn’t seem very promising that we will see a restaurant take over the location.

The owner Pete Gallanis who has owned and operated Cameron’s since 1986.

There was a story about a developer looking at the property, so maybe more development in the city?

Green Street Restaurant Temporary Closing Precaution Covid-19 @gsrestaurant @626food

This is not a permanent closure, at least we hope not.

From Facebook and email:

This isn’t the way we were hoping to start the year, but we have decided to close for a few days, beginning now through Sunday, January 11. As you know LA County, including the Pasadena community, has been hit hard with the virus and some of our staff are in various stages of quarantine. We feel that closing for a few days will allow our staff to stay home and monitor their own health and allow us to do another deep cleaning of the restaurant. We feel this will allow us to reopen next week and continue to offer our services in the healthiest of ways .
We are sorry we won’t be available to serve you this week but we hope you are taking the necessary precautions to stay healthy and safe during this strange time.
We look forward to hopefully seeing you next week. Stay well neighbors!

Pasadena Hahamongna watershed Modification to Conditional Use Permit #6222 Public Hearing Jan 6, 2021 5:30pm
Important hearing coming up regarding water rights in Hahamongna (the JPL canyon) and along the Gabrielino Trail.
Did you know the city of Pasadena holds water rights to the Hahamongna watershed, and has plans to unnaturally spread & pump more water (than they already do) from the basin under a plan that appears to ignore environmental concerns?
This coming Wednesday, January 6th, is your chance to attend a public hearing wherein the engineering project will be discussed:
MOD TO CUP #6222: 3420 AND 3500 N. ARROYO BLVD. – COUNCIL DISTRICT #1
Modification to Conditional Use Permit #6222: To allow the repair and replacement of City’s water infrastructure facilities within the Upper Arroyo Seco that were damaged by debris flows caused by storms following the 2009 Station Fire. Damage to these structures has greatly reduced the City’s capacity to divert water from the Arroyo Seco for spreading and pumping credits. The proposed improvements would allow for increased utilization of the City’s pre-1914 surface water rights from the Arroyo Seco. A Conditional Use Permit is required for any improvements within the Open Space (OS) Zoning District.
Recommendation:
1) Adopt a resolution certifying the Final Environmental Impact Report (SCH No. 2014101022) adopting findings, and adopting the Mitigation Monitoring Reporting Program;
2) Adopt a resolution adopting a Statement of Overriding Consideration for the project; and
3) Approve the Modification to Conditional Use Permit #6222 with conditions.

LA County Launches Holiday COVID-19 Home Test Collection Pilot

LA County begins home test collection program to reduce COVID-19 spread during the holidays

LOS ANGELES — LA County launched a new COVID-19 home test collection program today, which allows certain County residents to do free testing from the comfort of their own homes.

The home test collection program will run from December 1, 2020 through January 15, 2021. It aims to help address the current surge in demand for testing and reduce the spread of COVID-19 during the holiday season when people may risk exposure. Individuals can have testing kits mailed to their home if they:

  • Have COVID-19 symptoms; or
  • Were recently in close contact with someone who has COVID-19 or is suspected of having it; or
  • Are a senior or person with disabilities who feel they were exposed to COVID-19, but are unable to go to a testing site.

“As the surge in cases and hospitalizations continues, LA County is trying innovative ways to meet the testing demand and stem the community spread of the virus,” said Dr. Clemens Hong, who oversees COVID-19 testing for LA County under the Department of Health Services.

“We are doing everything we can to make sure testing is available to all,” Hong said. “This allows us to reach even more people – and they don’t have to risk exposing others by leaving their homes. It’s an important step for combatting the virus in LA County.”

The week before Thanksgiving, almost half a million tests were performed in LA County at over 180 community testing sites, hospitals, clinics, and other facilities.

The temporary program will use Picture COVID-19, an FDA-approved home collection test developed by Fulgent Genetics, Inc. For information on how to register, individuals should go to the county COVID-19 testing site. If they qualify, Fulgent Genetics will ship a collection kit to their home within two days.

Individuals taking the test at home should follow the directions to collect the sample and take it to a FedEx drop box the same day or have someone take it to a drop box on their behalf. Individuals will receive the results by e-mail within two days. While waiting for the testing kit and the results, individuals should continue following public health guidance on staying home and avoiding contact with others.

The COVID-19 Home Test Collection Pilot launch comes after Thanksgiving weekend, when some may have been exposed to COVID-19 while celebrating or shopping. A modified safer-at-home order took effect Monday, Nov. 30 that advises people to stay at home as much as possible and places new restrictions on gatherings and businesses.
