Slotting – refers to people unfairly merging together (e.g. people going on the shoulder to gain 50 yards).
Make our roads safer! Flag bad drivers with iPhone DRIVEMECRAZY. Reduce accidents, save lives. Report the license plate hands free. Or connect with other drivers!
“More than 6 million crashes take place on U.S. roads every year, resulting in more than 1.5 million police-reported injuries and more than 35, 000 deaths (i.e. one every 15 minutes!). Around the world, an estimated 1.2 million people die each year in traffic related accidents”. Source: Crashprevention.org and WHO
“Aggressive driving behavior accounts for half of all car accidents in the US”. Source: AAA Foundation
Can you connect these two facts as well? Poor driving behavior is possibly one of the worst problems our society faces today. The primary cause behind it is motorist anonymity, or the false belief that it’s OK to drive badly (or pick your nose in the car) because nobody knows you. Our vision is to dramatically reduce the number of accidents caused by unsafe or aggressive driving.
Driver feedback through an open and searchable database is the corner stone to helping people become more responsible drivers. We are not big brother, but merely report what individuals already observe on the road and complain about daily. Similar programs have proven to be effective:
– 1-800-How’s My Driving, reporting up to 30% less accidents
– HERO in Washington State, boasting the lowest carpool violation rate nationwide
– Dial 911 to Report Drivers, deterring people from driving under influence
– Etc.
We merely leverage the smartphone as a new (yet more convenient) platform to build this system. DriveMeCrazy is in essence a reputation management system similar to those already successfully deployed on the Internet such as eBay’s Buyer/Selling ratings, Honestly for professionals, and Yelp for businesses.
We hope you will share us in the vision to make our roads safer. If your active flagging of rogue drivers reduces accidents with a paltry 1%, we have just saved 350 lives.
