Holiday 2011 Schedule

Take a break from shopping with one of our demos and workshops presented by Joseph Shuldiner’s Institute of Domestic Technology.

Learn something new about urban homesteading and get inspired to make edible holiday gifts of your own at home.

11am {Making Harissa}

Erik Knutzen of Root Simple will demonstrate how to make harissa, a north African hot sauce, and how to make a small stove out of a Pepsi can so you can keep on cooking during the zombie apocalypse!

12pm {Home Beer Crafting}

Daniel Kent will demystify the process of home-brewing. This class will include a simple discussion about equipment, process and sources enabling you to be your own home brewmaster.

1pm {Winter Pickling}

Laurie Dill and Karen Hobart will demonstrate making pickled winter squash at home.

3pm {Mariposa Creamery}

Steve Rudicel and Gloria Putnam will discuss and share their experiences raising goats and making cheese in Altadena since 2009. Their mold-ripened goat cheese “Mariposa Bijou” won a Gold Medal at in the International Dairy Competition at the Los Angeles County Fair in 2010.

5pm {Easy Lemon Sorbet}

Karen Klemens of Mother Moo Creamery in Sierra Madre will demonstrate making an artisanal lemon sorbet in a home food processor. She will cover how to locally source fruit and other organic ingredients but, most importantly, there will be plenty of tasting samples!
