The Festival Celebrates

“Lucky 21” Years of Salsa!

July 26-27, 2014

Come celebrate 21 years of the Oxnard Salsa Festival and enjoy the food, music, and dance of salsa – at Southern California’s HOTTEST summer event! Presented by the Oxnard Downtowners, the Festival is an award-winning celebration packed with exciting music, amazing salsa dancing, flavorful food, and terrific family fun.

Featuring the

OXNARD SALSA ORCHESTRA!

The festivities begin Friday, July 25 at Plaza Park with The Oxnard Salsa Orchestra, ‘OSO.” This all-star salsa band is led by Oxnard percussionist Raul Rico Jr. As musician, producer, radio programmer and bandleader, Rico has been involved in various aspects of Latin music for over 40 years. The vast musical repertoire of OSO consists of classic and ‘old school’ salsa music focusing on the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s. Featuring Candi Sosa and Ruben L. Palazuelos on lead vocals and Oscar Hernandez on piano.

Among the most accomplished performers of the golden era of the Mambo Kings, New York Salsa, and Afro-Cuban music.

4:45 to 6:45:  Yari Moré Latin Band
Yari has shared the stage with the biggest names in the salsa world for over 20 years.

Sunday, July 27
11:00 to 1:00: Conjunto Afro Son
Bobby Escoto III is considered one of the prominent bongo and conga players in salsa in his hometown of L.A.

2:00 to 4:00: Orquesta Tabaco y Ron
An exciting “big-band” orchestra whose high-energy, hard-edged brand of salsa music is the perfect way to dance the afternoon away.

4:45 to 6:45: Janeen Puente
Featuring Janeen Puente, granddaughter of the late legendary Tito Puente.

Cherry Picking Leona Valley Los Angeles County 2014

It is cherry picking season in Los Angeles County. You can now go to the Leona Valley, near Palmdale approx 10 miles off the Fwy 14.

There are over a dozen orchards, some are small, some are larger the quality varies as does the taste of the cherries.

You can pick your own, the cost will range from approximately $3.75/lb to $4,50/lb.
