Fresh Salsa Plastic Cover

I love fresh salsa, but one of the frustrating things about dealing with salsa containers is they top with the plastic seal. It is difficult to peel off, usually coming off into several pieces with some falling into the salsa.

Some suggestions include possibly using a thicker plastic or making it a paper foil that doesn’t come apart so easy.

Tonight I was opening Garden Fresh Gourmet Jack’s Special Medium Fresh Salsa which I purchased at Costco and experienced this plastic falling apart when opening the salsa top.

The top is a screw top but there is a plastic seal on the container.

You can reach Garden Fresh Salsa at

I like this salsa, which taste great and a portion of the proceeds from the prodct go to benefit Children’s Hospitals.

All American Softy Deal

$75 for Mobile Soft-Serve Ice Cream and Sweet Treats for 25 from All American Softy ($175 Value)

  • Allamericansofty

Highlights

  • Soft-serve delivery
  • Dessert for a party of 25
  • Cones, slushies, sundaes, root beer floats

Today’s side deal elevates soft-serve ice cream from a post T-ball reward into a sweet party for adults. For $75, you get on-site van service ($100 value) that serves up cups or cones of soft-serve ice cream, sundaes, root-beer floats, and slushies from All American Softy for 25 people or one African forest elephant ($75 value). For an additional $25, you can upgrade to the full menu. The All American Softy truck will visit you anywhere in Ventura, Los Angeles, or Orange County. This deal is not valid for other items on the menu.

The low-fat Softy flavors (50% less fat than regular ice cream) hew to the traditional: chocolate, vanilla, and swirl. The toppings mix things up, raining down as nuts, sprinkles, fudge, butterscotch, chopped pineapple, and more. Slushies are always red, white, and blue—or cherry, lemon, and blue raspberry—for those who have never licked an American flag. Driven by a former hard-boiled New York City cop, the All American Softy truck will meet you where the party is: on the beach, at home, or in an abandoned salt mine.

Whittier: French Fare and Drinks at Crêpes and Grapes Café

$10 for $20 Worth of French Fare and Drinks at Crêpes and Grapes Café

  • Crepes_grapes

Crêpes have long struggled to achieve equal footing with the buttermilk pancake, lobbying day and night for fair wages and membership to the Screen Actors Guild. Today’s Groupon helps raise the batter ceiling. For $10, you get $20 worth of French-inspired foodstuffs from Crêpes and Grapes Café in Uptown Whittier. CityVoters’ 2009 best French restaurant in Los Angeles features an eclectic menu of American-influenced French cuisine, including a hefty dose of crêpes, the world’s most versatile flat food.

Once inside, Crêpes and Grapes’ brightly painted walls and smells of browning batter quickly provoke quiescent appetites. Sit at one of the cozily huddled tables and review the titular crêpe selection, which includes both savory and dessert pairings, not to mention the rarely seen breakfast crêpe. Early birds can wake up with the champignon crêpe ($7.25), stuffed to its crispy gills with eggs, sautéed mushrooms, herbs, goat cheese, and white sauce, or take a buttery bite of the sweet Frenchie Croissant French toast ($8.25) with raspberry melba and yogurt filling, served with eggs and fresh fruit.

Once both hands on the clock point vertically and it’s lights out, there are plenty of entrees available. The jardin and hummus ($8.85–$9.85) is a vegetarian option, featuring grilled spinach, leeks, garlic, red onions, asparagus, and eggplant in a red pepper pesto sauce, served with hummus. An unvegetarian choice is the noir rib-eye steak ($16.85–$17.85), grilled, blackened, and seasoned with sides of sautéed asparagus and scalloped potatoes. Also available are numerous hand-carved panini statues and hand-woven pasta baskets. Finish off your meal with a Nutella and banana crêpe ($6.45), a classic combo of hazelnut chocolate, banana slices, and whipped cream. Crêpes and Grapes also offers an extensive list of beverages, including specialty coffees, fruit smoothies ($4.20), and a bevy of hot or iced teas.

The exterior of Crêpes and Grapes looks like Nighthawks, while the interior resembles a European crêpe-house. French Art Nouveau posters dot the walls, and at night, strings of twinkling garden lights evoke a dinner date with Toulouse-Lautrec. The café’s low-key atmosphere is flexible enough to suit couples and families alike, while the French cuisine can lead either to discussions of Romance language and literature, or use of crêpes as warm, rejuvenating facemasks.

not valid for Sunday brunch.
