Why Do Some Companies Run Half Hearted Affiliate Programs?

Why Do Some Companies Run Half Hearted Affiliate Programs?
Maybe I should re-do the title based on some recent experiences with affiliate marketing, to something like

“Advertisers F*$k Affiliates: Dark Side of Affiliate Marketing”

It never ceases to amaze me the type of reaction or lack of reaction from advertisers running programs on the various networks, including their own programs.

One of the biggest problems in the affiliate world is not getting paid for traffic you as an affiliate work hard to drive to an advertiser.

Really if you are an affiliate why do you bother promoting a company service or product? Most of the time you drive traffic because the payout is good and you like what the company is doing.

I am not going to give names of companies yet, but there are over a dozen companies sitting in my CJ account that neither declined or approved my application to be an affiliate. When I try to contact them, there is no response…. Why is this? Are they still active on the CJ network? Yes, they choose to not respond, why?

Well, maybe I will name a few advertisers,
ADT Home Security(ADS) – I applied in Dec 2010, still have not heard.
All Star Directories – I applied in Dec 2010, still have no response.
And there are over a dozen more than have not responded.
Something CJ can do is place the contact name and email for the affiliate/advertiser on the program description.

Now the other side, there are many programs that are great, the manager does a great job communicating and finding creative ways to work together with affiliates/publishers.

Just on CJ alone there are hundreds of programs I work with. Some closer than others.

What is your story? Have you had an experience you want to share?
