Postal Service reschedules public meeting on Pasadena mail processing study to Jan. 10December 23, 2011 PASADENA, CA – The U.S. Postal Service has cancelled its planned public meeting on Dec. 29, and rescheduled it for Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2012. The meeting will now take place at Robinson Park, Multi Purpose Room, 1081 N. Fair Oaks Ave., Pasadena CA 91103, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The purpose of the meeting is to discuss the Postal Service’s proposal to move mail processing operations currently at the Pasadena Processing & Distribution Center (P&DC) into the Los Angeles P&DC. With the deep decline in mail volume due to current economic conditions and continuing electronic diversion of communications and business transactions, the Postal Service has an excess of employees and equipment in some mail processing operations. A study was begun on Sept. 15, 2011, at the Pasadena P&DC to determine the feasibility of consolidating operations to see if any efficiencies and cost savings would be achieved. Initial study results support consolidating Pasadena mail processing operations in order to increase efficiency and improve productivity. While no final decision has been reached, Postal Service managers will give an overview of the reasons for the proposal and its possible outcomes, and will listen to community input.
