Recently honored with a nomination by the James Beard Foundation for “Rising Star Chef,” Corazon y Miel Chef Eduardo Ruiz announces an exciting new adventure in casual dining, PICNIK. Opening to the public on Saturday, March 15, 2014, PICNIK is set to debut within the outdoor courtyard and adjacent indoor bar space at 168 W. Colorado Boulevard, just at the western entrance to Old Pasadena. Ruiz has teamed with Chef Michael Puglisi, formerly of Bouchon Beverly Hills and the soon to open Electric City Butcher Shop in the Santa Ana 4th Street Market artisanal food complex, to offer a selection of customized, hand crafted sausages, impeccably sourced from compassionate, family owned and operated farms, and prepared fresh daily, on premises. As Executive Chef/ Partner of the project, Ruiz will oversee all food and menu creations, including the customization of sausages, side dishes, and salads. Although the house made sausages deliver the core menu offerings, Ruiz also plans to include a sandwich of sardines in oil with shaved fennel, a rotating vegetarian offering, and (coming soon!) a follow up to his legendary Pan con Chompipe – the PICNIK Pork Shank sandwich, a signature offering similarly gargantuan to the Pan con Chompipe, prepared in the style of traditional German beer halls.
