Enjoy a free evening of art, music and entertainment as Pasadena’s most prominent arts and cultural institutions swing open their doors. Last fall, 14,000 people experienced the excitement of ArtNight!

Lineage Dance explores the art of fire, wind and water through performance and sculpture in “Elements of the Earth,” a site-specific dance created and performed for the Ant Climber at Kidspace. Participatory dance time for children and families will also be performed throughout the evening. Stick around from 8:30-9:30 for the fire dancers!

“Pasadena Patron: The Life & Legacy of Eva Scott Fenyes,” the world of art, live music and dance from Pasadena’s Gilded Age, and one of early Pasadena’s most influential women. Grammy-award winning recording artist Ian Whitcomb will present a program about popular music, dance and etiquette at the turn of the 20th century.

Films on dance and nonstop live music and contemporary dance performances, including Lineage Dance’s latest piece, “Defining Moments.” Singer/songwriter Michelle Bloomwill perform selections from her latest work, Fields of Attention, inspired by the writings of poets, neuroscientists, Buddhists, and monks. Renowned trumpeter Sarah Kramer, will perform jazz and popular standards.

“Three Founts,” a site-specific, fanciful fountain in the courtyard, drawn from Pasadena history by artist Lynn Aldrich. American Composers Forum, Los Angeles will provide a night of colorful contemporary music with local ensembles Dragonas and The Cal Poly Pomona MIDI Band which will perform a variety of entertaining songs.

“Steve Roden: In Between, A 20 Year Survey,” the first survey of the artist’s work in all its divergent forms. NewTown’s “Convergences” presents 11 artists who integrate digital media, sculpture and installation. Art by talented students from LA’s Ribét Academy is on display in the Community Room gallery. See amazing 3D photos upstairs in the drawing and painting studio, courtesy of the Stereo Club of Southern California. In the main studio,Buddy Zapata and The Theatre of Low Expectations will provide music rooted in influences from the Deep South. Top off the evening with an ice cream sandwich from the now-legendary Coolhaus Ice Cream Truck, parked outside.

“Paris,” an art exhibit by the recognized Los Angeles-based painter Roberto Gutierrez, whose black and white canvases and gray watercolors give a nostalgic feel to the City of Lights. Music of France will fill the air as the flute and harp duo of Arpa y Aulos play music from the time of the French Impressionists to Edith Piaf.

“Art of the Book” as seen through graphic novels, paintings, photographs, and theatrical and musical performances, and craft-making.Reiyukai America will provide a free arts workshop where visitors can unleash their creativity and make a bookmark using recycled materials. Michael Kluch, a professional photographer and photography instructor at Pasadena High School, will exhibit large format inkjet prints. Crown City Chamber Players will provide the music in the Children’s Room, in front of the Fireplace from 6 – 10 pm. Flights of Fantasy Story Theatre will present wonderful interactive theatrical performances of children’s folk stories and fables from around the world.

The 24 Hour Gallery and Light Bringer Projects are pleased to present “Unsustainable Creatures III,” an installation by artist Cynthia Minet — LED illuminated sculptures of domesticated animals made from repurposed plastic objects and containers. Located in the public display cases on Holly Street, between Arroyo Parkway and Raymond Ave., directly across from the Pasadena Senior Center and the Memorial Park Metro Gold Line Station. It’s also walking distance from the Armory andHeritage Wine Company, whose hosting a public reception for the artist from 6:00-9:30. Curated by Margaret Adachi.
