The Co-op invites you to join us on a tour of John Muir High School’s “Muir Ranch,” a three-acre farm that is both a Consumer Supported Agriculture (CSA) program and a school-sponsored project that gets kids involved in growing food and running a business.
A CSA is a way for consumers to buy local, seasonal produce directly from farmers. You sign up for a full or half box of fruits and vegetables, and pick it up at a designated location once a week. It’s a great option for people who love the farmer’s mark et but can’t get there every week, and it’s an excellent value. Because a CSA enables farmers to save on overhead costs, produce is generally less expensive than what you find at the farmers market.
Muir Ranch’s weekly boxes, or shares, contain produce and flowers grown by the kids, supplemented with fruits and vegetables from other local farmers.
