We asked Frankie about hemp use in printing and here’s what he told us.

About the Hemp…..
We are excited to be the only commercial printer offering a hemp product line in the country. I’ve researched all over the place, and can not find a single printer offering hemp products for commercial use. I was amazed that no printers had ever thought about using hemp as an alternative to tree pulp. I’d imagine its lack of offering is due to the difficulties in getting one’s hands on hemp. Since it is illegal to harvest in the U.S., we had to find someone to source it for us out of Canada. It was important for us to source it from a domestic source, as we are big advocates for supporting local business. All of our paper is manufactured and sourced from the North America, none of it comes from over seas.

Although the Hemp is expensive when compared to standard low-post consumer sheets that are typically coming from countries outside of the U.S., we have managed to source the hemp sheets in bulk bringing the cost substantially lower than expected, which then allows us to pass over the savings to the consumer. Hemp is truly the only renewable TREE FREE stock on the market that retains a high regard for natural resources and respects the ideas of supporting local commerce. The hemp is processed chlorine free, 100% chemistry free, and uses 75% post-consumer fibers. It truly is the best case scenario for all consumers, whether they care about the environment or not.

The hemp is very elegant, slightly tan and has visible fiber and is naturally textured to the touch. You have all the flexibility with Hemp that you would have with any other sheet on the market. If you can print it on paper, you can print it on hemp, plain and simple.
