Burbank Airport Solar-powered hangar debuts
The Associated Press
BURBANK, Calif. — A solar-powered hangar at Burbank’s Bob Hope Airport supplies electricity for lights, forklifts and tow vehicles as well as enough juice for a Boeing 757 while it is on the ground for maintenance.
Rooftop photovoltaic panels provide electricity for the 60, 000-square-foot Hangar 25, believed to be the first solar-powered airport hangar.
The new $17 million hangar debuting Tuesday is a joint venture of Shangri-La Construction, the aviation services firm Avjet Corp. and the Burbank-Glendale-Pasadena Airport Authority.
It has been given LEED Platinum status, the highest environmentally friendly rating given by the U.S. Green Building Council.
LA’s mayor spoke with pride about the $17 million hangar, saying the facility at 3030 N. Clybourn Ave. on the west side of Bob Hope Airport is a “model for the city, the nation and the world.”
We are working to get pictures of the hanger.
