On December 9, 1980, the first Pietro Spaghetti Restaurant was opened in Tenjin, Fukuoka, Japan. There are at least a hundred(100) Pietro Spaghetti Restaurants throughout Japan, some are owned by Pietro and the others are franchised.
The name “Pietro” is derived from a famous Italian fairy tale. “Pietro” is Italy’s most popular name for a male, which in the English language is better known as “Peter.” In Italy, the name “Pietro” is thought of in a positive manner as a result of the famous fairy tale.
It takes approximately ten (10) minutes to prepare fresh al’dente spaghetti. When the first Pietro Spaghetti Restaurant was opened, customers were offered a salad using Pietro’s Original Dressing (Shoyu) while they would await their orders. This exposure created the huge popularity that the Pietro Dressing enjoys today. In 1983, department stores in Japan starting selling the Pietro Dressings. By 1995. Pietro is currently the top selling chilled dressing throughout Japan.
Pietro Hawaii, Inc., the operator of the Angelo Pietro Honolulu Restaurant, was established on March 15, 1990 and is owned by Pietro, Ltd., a Japan corporation. Pietro, Ltd. developed and created the unique oriental flavor utilized in Pietro’s pasta, pizza and salad dishes, and salad dressing.
