I recently purchased the Android G1 Phone from Google via the Developer Program.
I called t-mobile to ask about how the firmware would be rolled out, and was told it would be rolled out via OTA – over the air between Feb 5-15.
This morning I woke up and the update was not pending. I am wondering if maybe my phone will not upgrade via OTA because it is a Google branded phone and not Tmobile.
I am looking for more info on this and will report back
There is a 1.1 firmware for the Developer phone. You can search for ADP 1.1 and should find links to it fairly easily.
If you are really impatient, you can follow the instructions here and update on your own. Took about 10 minutes. https://www.mobilecrunch.com/2009/02/05/how-to-get-rc33-on-your-g1-without-the-wait/

To G1 owners.
They’ve got the RC33 file for manual upgrade. This only applies to people who haven’t obtained root on there device.
Rename the .zip file to update.
Put the update.zip file in the main folder on your SD card.
Turn off the phone.
Hold home, and power button, until your phone boots into the boot loader screen.
Press Alt+L, and then Alt+S.
Let it do it’s thing, and good luck!
Again, the download links are here:

Install mod Directly from G1 (No computer needed) :
1. go to market and download astro (File management software)
2. Download THIS FILE to your G1.
3. After it downloads open astro and navigate to DOWNLOADS. Find the file then hit menu or long press file to rename it update.zip.
4. after you rename it hit menu or longpress again hit edit then hit move. Hit the back key (In astro) once then hit menu and hit paste.
5. Power off the G1 and follow the install procedure detailed above from step 5.
Things to keep in mind:
- If this is your first time performing an update on the G1 (Manual or otherwise) PLEASE read the FAQ before continuing. It will save you much greif.
- PRINT OR WRITE THESE INSTRUCTIONS DOWN BEFORE YOU BEGIN! You will not be able to load your phones browser once you begin this procedure.
- Keep your G1 hooked into a power source through the install process.
- No matter how long the process takes, DO NOT TRY TO REBOOT YOUR PHONE MANUALLY UNLESS OTHERWISE SPECIFIED IN THE ABOVE INSTRUCTIONS. Doing this is the most likely way for you to brick your phone.
- Do NOT open the zip file! Simply rename and move. Android will do the rest.
- If you have root you can not use this download yet until JF comes out with a fix.
- This will *NOT* root your phone. You will still be able to receive future updates via OTA from T-Mobile.
If you want Root* please visit: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=442480
PS… With root you can install apps to the SD card.
