San Francisco Area Farmers’ Markets List & Map

If you are a fan about farmer’s markets like I am you will always be in search of a local farmer’s market.

This is list is from Together in Food, we will try to update it with notes, websites, pictures as we go:

1. Alemany Farmers’ Market (Mission/Bernal Heights) – the “people’s market” and first in the state (see article here)
Saturdays: 6 a.m –3 p.m.
100 Alemany Blvd.
415-647-2043

Notes: This is one of my favorite markets when visiting the San Francisco Area. There are vendors here from all over the region. Look for the sought after red walnuts(milder flavors)
Bernal Heights’ Alemany Farmers’ Market is home to the oldest farmers’ market in the US. Operating every Saturday since August 1947!
Visit the Hummus Guy, best hummus!
Oysters are from Pt Reyes Oyster Farm at $10 per dozen. So fresh.
Parking: There is a lot if you go up Putnam and turn right on Tompkins and enter parking through back.

2. Ferry Plaza Farmers’ Market (Embarcadero)
Year-round
Tuesdays: 10 a.m-2 p.m.
Thursdays: 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
Saturdays: 8 a.m.-2 p.m.
Ferry Building
1 Ferry Plaza
415-291-3276
Notes: I understand this is one of the largest markets in the area.
website
Parking can be a bit expensive depending on the day you go. One tip is to park in the Embarcadero parking structure and buy something and your parking can be validated. I parked in the Howard lot on a Thursday and the cost was $18 for 1 1/2 hours. That is absurd for parking. So beware of the Howard parking structure, although they do advertise a $6 rate for the Sat and Sun for 4 hours.
Still I would be weary of that and the market does not validate that I could find out.
