FREE CLEAN-AIR CAR SHOW & GREEN-LIVING EXPO IN SOUTH PASADENA
Ride-and-drives, raffle prizes offered at free event

The latest in clean-air vehicle technology and green products for the home and garden will be on exhibit at the South Pasadena Clean-Air Car Show and Green-Living Expo on Sunday, Sept. 16 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event is free and will be held at the South Pasadena Unified School District parking lot at 1020 El Centro St. in South Pasadena (entrance on Mission St. and Fairview Ave.). The event will include vehicle ride-and-drives in electric and hybrid-electric cars, along with movie screenings, smart gardening workshops and a free raffle for two electric lawn mowers, a natural-gas log set including installation, and a high-efficiency washing machine.

The event is sponsored by the City of South Pasadena in partnership with the South Coast Air Quality Management District (AQMD), and is being held in conjunction with the city’s annual Cruz’n for Roses Hot Rod & Classic Car Show.

“The health of our environment is a growing concern and the Expo provides a venue to demonstrate how new technologies and green strategies can result in a cleaner, and healthier environment,” said Mike Antonovich, Los Angeles County Supervisor and AQMD Governing Board member.

“Each person can make a difference, and the Expo will give Southern California residents ideas on how to do their part in helping the environment, whether it be with zero-emission vehicles or smart gardening,” said Antonovich.

Attendees will have the opportunity to view plug-in hybrid, electric, compressed natural gas (CNG), and hydrogen fuel cell vehicles. They will also have the opportunity to visit green-living exhibitors and learn more about residential solar energy systems as well as eco-friendly household products. Free smart gardening workshops will be offered and free movie screenings of “Revenge of the Electric Car” and AQMD’s signature documentary film “The Right to Breathe” will play throughout the day.

The Los Angeles region has among the worst air pollution in the nation, but also leads the country in innovative air quality solutions. Cars, trucks, trains, ships, aircrafts, and other mobile sources account for up to 90 percent of air pollution. Poor air quality in Southern California is responsible for thousands of premature deaths annually and costs the region $14.6 billion dollars per year.

The purpose of this Expo is to help inform the public of the importance in making the transformation to zero- or near-zero emission vehicles.  Accelerating the deployment of these zero-emission vehicles will increase our energy security, reduce dependency on foreign oil, and re-allocate funds now spent on foreign oil into the community to create jobs and build infrastructure for a zero-emission future.

The event schedule is as follows:

  • Smart Gardening Workshops – 10:30 a.m. (beginning); 1:00 p.m. (advanced)
  • Movie Screenings:
    Revenge of the Electric Car – 10:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.
    The Right to Breathe – 12:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m.
  • Vehicle ride-and-drive – 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
