§ AT&T restores online iPhone sales, in-home activation
New iPhone 3G customers can now activate their service online, via Apple‘s iTunes service, and AT&T has revived its online sales of the smartphone, although subscribers who want to upgrade from the original iPhone must still do so in person. Because AT&T elected to subsidize the price of the new handsets instead of sharing the revenue with Apple, customers had been required to activate the 3G handsets at retail locations.
