Altadena is poised to launch the innagural Altadena Certified Organic Farmers Market, to be held at Loma Alta Park, high in the hills of Altadena. The location next to the Altadena Community Garden is appropriate for a market of this type.

Farms and vendors, some appearing for the first time in Los Angeles County.

2. L.A. Bread Bakers, which will use a bicycle-powered grain mill at the market to grind fresh Sonoran wheat flour;

Ostomy Visitor is a person who had an Ostomy surgery and can answer questions about every day life. The United Ostomy Association (www.UOAA.org) is a national organization creating awareness, raising funds for research and providing support for Ostomates. Ostomy Visitor programs and support groups are sponsored by local chapters of the UOA.

 

Support groups are a critical part of helping ostmates in getting through the trials and tribulations of dealing with ostomy bags and the lack of education and expertise at hospitals.  As more people are fasced with the challenging task of dealing with a temporary or permanent ostomy support groups play a critical part.

Last week I learned of an Ostomy Support Group at Huntington Hospital in Pasadena, the group is supported by the hospital and about 25 people attended the meeting on Thursday night. The next meeting is on May 18, 2012, held at the Huntington Pavilion, at the corner of California and Fair Oaks.

Participants:
Anyone who has a stoma for the diversion of bowel or bladder. Family and friends are welcome.

Wound ostomy continence nurse, Social worker, Colorectal program nurse navigator

Third Thursday of each month
5:30-7:30 p.m. (except holidays)

Format:
Each meeting will feature a guest speaker presenting information focusing on improving one’s ability to adapt and cope with an ostomy. This will be followed by an open sharing session wherein participants will discuss and share their feelings. Topics will include common problems associated with having an ostomy. Group sessions help to identify problem solving techniques and build camaraderie and support among members. The group will be led by one of the facilitators who are available to answer questions, lend support and provide community resources.

CicLAvia Los Angeles 2012
