This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of App.Cat. All opinions are 100% mine.
With all the big fuss that Iphone has made on our lives it’s no wonder that every time a creative idea pops up it translates to an application. This is what our creative feline friend apparently did for an application called app.cat. It centers on helping people design their very own Apple Iphone application and sending them via email, sms and social networking sites to gain the needed attention. The motivating factor surrounding the app.cat is simply empowering people to do it on their own, having their own application in the palm of everybody’s hands. It is complications being simplified and it can be done by ordinary people. No need to pay software geeks just to create an application that cost a lot of money. The application covers everything under your name with a corresponding logo along with your very own; news, galleries, maps, speed dials and social stuff. This is what professionals are made of and you can be one without any training whatsoever. The best part is you can update and edit your design inside your application with a given pin code number for easy access. Once you update your application then it is also updated on whoever is carrying your application instantly. By the way did I tell you it is free yup it is, so better start devising a new design because #spapp.cat is here to make your creative ideas into reality.
Will We Ever Conquer Cancer?
From a Persian queen’s brutal mastectomy in the fifth century BC to the 19th century recipients of primitive chemotherapy, humans have long tried to beat cancer. But even as we routed other scourges like cholera and tuberculosis, launched ambitious public health campaigns, exposed the dangers of chemicals like nicotine, and survived ever more rigorous treatment regimens, cancer remained as deadly and mysterious as ever. Cancer physician and researcher Siddhartha Mukherjee, author of The Emperor of all Maladies: A Biography of Cancer, visits Zócalo to tell the history and future of a disease we’ve lived with, died from, and tried to conquer for thousands of years.

How Much Public Debt Can We Endure?
Charles Rappleye
Ever since the American Revolution, the U.S. has run debts to finance its policy goals, thanks to a financial system created largely by one man. As the Superintendent of Finance for the rebel American government, Robert Morris instituted debt financing as the best means to pay for the costs of fighting the Revolution. But he was frustrated and confounded by the refusal of many Americans to pay taxes. Successive democratic governments have faced the same problem: citizens aren’t always willing to go along with the high costs of public policy, from wars to Social Security to infrastructure to education. How can the U.S. pay for its policies without losing the support of Americans? Charles Rappleye, author of Robert Morris: Financier of the American Revolution, visits Zócalo to explore what the system created during the Revolution means for today’s taxing, spending, and pursuit of ambitious public policies.

Quikrete – Rose Parade Float
ROSE PARADE FLOAT
ROSE PARADE COUNTDOWN
Our float, designed by John Ramirez, is a fun play off the story of the little three pigs. As the fairy tale goes the three little pigs build their homes with the intention of keeping out the Big Bad Wolf. The first little pig builds his house out of straw, the second little pig builds his house out of sticks and the Big Bad Wolf blows both houses down. The third little pig builds his house out of QUIKRETE® Concrete Mix and thus out-smarts the Big Bad Wolf. His dream home is safe thanks to QUIKRETE®.
FLOAT MATERIALS
The 120 year tradition of the Rose Parade requires that the entire surface of each float must be covered using a variety of flowers, seeds, bark, leaves and other natural materials. So what materials are we using?
- The pigs consist of dried strawberry, farina flowers and powdered rice.
- The straw house is made of real straw, oncidium orchids and cut strawflower.
- The plywood house is covered in paper bark, birch twigs and flax seed.
- The gardens in front of the straw and plywood houses are filled with purple iris, hot pink roses and Bells of Ireland.
- The QUIKRETE® concrete mix house is covered in a combination of millet seed, poppy seed and dill seed.
- The wheel barrel at the rear of float in front of the QUIKRETE® house is covered with silver leaf and carnation petals.
- The bricks in the yard of the QUIKRETE® house are created with cranberry seed.
- The garden in front of the QUIKRETE® house is filled with orange, green, lavender and pink roses.
- The trees on the float are created with croton leaves, yellow button mums, orange lentils and redwood bark.
- Water is created through dendrobium orchids, blue iris and galyx leaves.

Carmela Ice Cream is scheduled to open on January 10, 2011.
An ice cream shop that will be opening in the Altadena – Pasadena area is something we are all looking forward to seeing.
Apparently they won’t have any seating, a few benches if you want to grab a quick bite. Martoratti said Carmela Ice Cream will continue to be available at farmers markets, specialty markets and restaurants. They’ve also got a cool ice cream truck to be used for deliveries, events and parties.
The location will be at
2495 Washington Blvd., near Altadena Dr.
Jessica Mortarotti – founder, flavor developer
If you want to buy some of this great ice cream and don’t want to drive to Altadena, you can pick it up at these locations:
Carmela Ice Cream is sold at local farmers’ markets, select restaurants and specialty food stores.
We also have a vintage-style ice cream cart available for parties and special events.
Please contact us if you would like Carmela Ice Cream at your store, restaurant or next event.
From their website of current flavors:
Our handmade ice creams and sorbets are made in small batches from fresh, real ingredients such as herbs & spices, flowers, nuts and fruits. We shop local farmers’ markets and have a partnership with Silver Lake Farms, a local, organic farm that supplies us with fresh-cut herbs, flowers and fruits. We believe seasonal tastes better, so check in often to see what’s fresh.

$5.50 bought you 4 tastes of Merkin Vineyards offerings
$10 bought you 4 different Caduceus Wines and then there was another flight of 4 Caduceus wines for $13.
I opted for the $10 tasting. Let me stress that they take the word ‘taste’ very literally there. The pours are almost laughable; maybe 1 oz at most. You’d think they were serving holy water blessed by Jesus himself.
