2007 SideJob Cellars Sonoma County Cabernet Sauvignon $10 at Trader Joes

Trader Joes is carrying the SideJob 2007 Cab at $9.99. This is pretty good wine, but not nearly as good as the Tribunal.

We have seen this wine sell for $18 to $23, where Trader Joes has it for $9.99.

Living the dream..

To me SideJob Cellars was just a name that described my answer to the creative itch (and maybe a little mid life crisis) that needed to be scratched. After all, I already sold my Corvette to make sure I was committed to the project (to my wife’s joy) and was well on my way producing a great Dry Creek Zinfandel with my C5 label.

My SideJob Cellars label is produced from wine purchased from small wineries then blended to meet the quality and value standards my company represents.

Purchasing “bulk” wine from small producers allows me to make wines that are hand crafted without the overhead of owning a winery. The end results are high guality wines at affordable prices (which we can all use these days).

Produced from grapes grown in Sonoma County’s top appellations, this Cabernet Sauvignon expresses Sonoma County’s diverse soils and climates with velvety, complex layers of Cassis blackberry, black cherries and toasted oak.

Hope you like it, I think it’s pretty awsome!

2007 SideJob Cellars Sonoma County Cabernet Sauvignon

After 25 years in corporate wine culture, SideJob Cellars founder Jeff Lubin launched his own brand of wines. Finally giving up his “Real Job” he now focuses his attention on this project and produces some pretty delicious wines. The cabernet is sourced predominately from the Dry Creek Valley and spends 16 months in French oak, 40% of which is new. The wine has suave notes of ripe black fruit, currants and mocha. This is pretty rich and tasty stuff.

Sorry we don’t have a winery or tasting room yet! If you would like to get in touch with us all our information is below.

Road to Big Bear Highway 330 Washed out

Update 1-12-11: Officials with Caltrans have released an update on the damaged 330, the good news is that it is going to reopen sooner than the last update of two years. The last update is that the road will be reopened on 1/2012. Of course if weather does not cooperate all bets are off.

Update 1-6-11: Caltrans is reporting that the Highway 330 to Big Bear may not be open for as long as 2 years. This is based on visible chunks of the road that gave way making the road impassable to any vehicles. Officials, engineers and inspectors have been walking the highway and drilling holes to check for the stability of the road. So far this is the best estimate they can provide is that it could be closed for 2 years!!

Giant chunks of road gave way!

And… still parts of the road is giving way.

So this is a developing story.

The road to Big Bear Highway 330 is closed, due to the collapse the rain washed out of the main road.

Highway 18 and 38 are the only other options, and 18 appears to have had some damage that is preventing traffic.

It could take several weeks for Highway 330 to re-open.

“State Route 330 will remain closed possibly through the winter due to damage sustained during recent storm events,” said Caltrans spokeswoman Shelli Lombardo.

Officials are rerouting motorists traveling to Big Bear onto State Route 38 through Redlands. Highway 18 was also closed to traffic but may reopen sooner because damage was not as severe as officials initially thought, Lombardo said.

This is the latest:

SR 330
[IN THE SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA AREA]
IS CLOSED FROM HIGHLAND AVE /IN SAN BERNARDINO/ TO 2 MI SOUTH OF THE
JCT OF SR 18 (SAN BERNARDINO CO) - DUE TO STORM DAMAGE - MOTORISTS ARE ADVISED
TO USE AN ALTERNATE ROUTE

Update: Highway 18 is in fact OPEN!

AT&T Outages in Los Angeles Rain Related

We are learning that AT&T customers in the Los Angeles area are experiencing troubles due to the recent rains.

AT&T apparently has deployed teams of technicians from Northern California to assist with the outages.

In  cases, phone boxes that house telephone cables have flooded, shorting the circuits. AT&T customers have lost voice and DSL access, preventing any communication — except mobile phone.

Leaving residential and business customers throughout the region without dial tone or internet access.  We have not heard if u-Verse has been affected which would include their video services.

“Our goal is to get everyone back in service,”  “We’re working as quickly as we can. Customers are coming back on line all the time.”

Some customers who called AT&T’s 611 support line were told that technicians would not be available until Jan. 5. I called and was told the same thing, after I had a technician come out and I tried to schedule another tech to come out.

I know I had trouble with my landline receiving calls but it was happening before the rains started.

“We have technicians out there, working around the clock to restore service,” AT&T spokeswoman Debbie Rapoport told City News Service this afternoon.

Verizon is also experiencing troubles:

John Davies with Verizon California — another major local exchange carrier — said a “significant number” of storm-related repair calls had come in, and the company had crews “working night and day” to restore phone service.

“The calls are fairly evenly distributed across our service area,” Davies said. “There are pockets of customers here and there with connectivity issues.”

Verizon handles about 20 percent of the state’s local telephone business, mostly in Riverside, Los Angeles, Orange, Ventura and Santa Barbara counties, according to Davies.

He predicted it would take about two weeks to fix all the storm-related problems.

We will post an update.

AT&T Customer Relations Office of President

If you are like me you have experienced the many layers at AT&T in trying to get someone to hear your complaints or getting help.

After much complaining online and over the phone, I received a call from AT&T office of the president for my most recent landline issue. Gary the rep I spoke to was very knowledgeable and provided me with the number I could use if I was to ever have troubles with my line and could not resolve.

Thanks Gary. (800) 791-6661

This led me to ask if the same type of group exists for the AT&T wireless AT&T mobility group, and apparently there is.  They can be reached at (800) 498-1912. I will be calling them to see how they can help with my ongoing wireless issues in the Pasadena/Glendale/Burbank areas.   Pasadena has long been a problem with dropped calls and no service, even after there was a new tower that was supposed to go up in October 2010. This made no difference.

Updated: Contact AT&T CEO, Randall Stephenson

Update: The phone number provided as a direct number to his secretary (210-351-5401) is no longer in service. However, the alternate phone number to headquarters is correct. You no longer press 3 though. You press “6” to get to the executive offices, then it’ll give you options to enter based on whether you’re calling about phone, wireless, television, etc.

Taken from another posting online regarding the Office of the President from AT&T Wireless/Mobility

For anyone still reading this here is another name number and extension from at&t office of the president. I spoke to this person within the last month so I know it’s good number.

He helped me smooth over my at&t issue with my iPhone recently and I’m very happy with the results. This guy gets things done!

If you’re not getting anywhere with lower-level customer-service reps, you can try calling your regional Cingular/AT&T Office of the President. These people have a great deal of discretion and can sometimes resolve problems. But please be aware there are numerous reports in the main Free2Go thread and on other online sites of Office of the President reps lying to customers or refusing to be of assistance. So, it’s important to take good notes and to get whatever you can in writing. I’d advise that you correspond with them by e-mail whenever possible.

If you’ve had dealings with an Office of the President employee, you can provide valuable help here by contributing to this list. If you’ll PM me with the person’s name, location, phone number, e-mail address and any other relevant info, I’ll add it to this list. I won’t reveal your identity or provide details about who contributed what. The list below has been compiled from responses I’ve received to a PM I recently sent FatWallet regulars and from other online sources.

Under each region, I’ve first listed all the telephone numbers for that office and have then have linked each employee with the number by which the contributor reached that individual. (Please note that the names of the regions either came from what I was told by the contributor or were my own best guess. They may not be entirely accurate, so it’d be wise to ask when you call if your state falls under that office’s jurisdiction.)

2003 Honda Accord Transmission Problems Part II @honda

As I posted a earlier this month and you may have read about my experience with the 2003 Honda Accord V6 transmission issues.

The latest on this is that the car is still at the dealer and the transmission is on major back order, estimates are it could take a month for the dealer to receive the transmission.  Why is there such a back order? We could speculate that Honda is experiencing a run due to increased failure in the transmissions. We are seeing many more complaints being reported on the NHSTA site where if you are experiencing any problem with your vehicle you can search and post.

So what should Honda do about this situation?

Should Honda issue and expand the recall for previous year Honda Accords?

Obviously, we are seeing the problem with these transmissions as they are even difficult  for the dealer to order.

Meanwhile my 2003 Honda Accord sits at the Honda dealer, and I have no car.   I could take it and drive it until the transmission really fails, but then I would be setting myself up for what could be a very dangerous situation.

I request that Honda provide me with a loaner car while my car is fixed.
