So what comes after USB 1 and USB 2? You guessed it…. USB 3.0.
Many believe that USB 3.0 will be as common place as USB 2 within a few years.
We will all be buying new cables and connectors, this happens every couple of years, we went from parallel cables to USB and you can hardly find a parallel cable.
Dubbed the “Reduced Size Multi-Pin Male Plug Connector,” the plug is set to not only feature a smaller version of the 30 pin dock connector, but also–and you’ll want to be sitting down for this–two USB 2.0 contacts, four USB 3.0 contacts, and a dual-lane DisplayPort (otherwise known as Thunderbolt).
Unlike USB 2 and 1, 3 is not backward compatible. So this is a major shift in connectivity technology.
