Derek’s Bistro Fraud Certificate Warning

Special Alert…

Do not purchase 3rd party gift certificates for Derek’s Bistro on the internet!

They are not valid and will not be honored at Derek’s Bistro.

The only gift certificates we honor are those purchased at Derek’s Bistro with my signature as authorization.

Recently persons have presented $100 gift certificates purchase at discount rates from online auction houses or travel sites.  These are not valid so please do not purchase them and advise your friends not to as well.

Thank you…
Tony Auer

Here’s a followup to the email alert:

The gift certificates are something Derek arranged with Gourmet Magazine
back in November.  Gourmet went out of business in December, and sold the
certificates to an online auction.  My conversation with the publisher has
not given me a date when they were sold, but they just started showing up in
the past 2 weeks.  I purchased the restaurant from Derek in Feb and the
purchase agreement states that I am not responsible for Derek’s debts…
This being a debt. The first time they appeared was when a party of 4 came
in, had a wonderful meal, and then presented 4 $100 certificates for their
meal.  Not being aware of what was going on the server accepted them.  Last
Thursday another one showed up at lunch.  I told the youthful party of 3
that we did not honor them.  2 days later a bad review complaining about our
lunch showed up on Open Table.  Another one showed up Saturday night, it was
presented with the check, but when I told the couple we do not honor them
(and there is a sign posted at the front desk) They stormed out of the
restaurant.  The one thing these guests have in common is that they are
first time visitors and made their reservations through Open Table.

Derek’s Bistro is great, be cautious of buying any gift certificates.
