Pasadena, CA (April 29, 2009) – Brix 42 will celebrate its grand opening in conjunction with American Craft Beer Week, May 11 – 17, 2009. The restaurant and brewery will kickoff the festivities by giving away free food Monday, May 11th from 4:00 – 10:00 pm.

“We want everyone in Pasadena to come in and enjoy a meal on us,” George Ghaby, owner said.

Brix 42, restaurant and brewery offers diners’ generous portions of signature dishes like pot roast, fish and chips, and chorizo basted pork tenderloin. The restaurant also houses its own brewery, which brews five distinctive beers at a time.

Brix 42 is a proud supporter of American Craft beer week, a national celebration held May 11 – 17, highlighting America’s small and independent breweries that produce fewer than 2 million barrels of beer a year and are independently owned. Along with the nation’s other brewers, Brix 42 is asking the public to come in to sign the ‘Declaration of Beer Independence,’ to show their support for their local brewers.

In addition to giving away free entrees on May 11th, Brix will also be releasing a special IPA to the public, an aggressive Indian Pale Ale that featuresunique citrus andherbal flavors. Its distinctivearoma highlights the earthy spiciness from hand selected American hops. A full-bodied and hoppy beer which incorporates three British malts to define the most exceptional profile.

Also in the works are special brewery tours, all-night happy hour specials on Tuesday, $3 house draft beer all week, and nightly entertainment.

“We are excited to be a part of something like this,” George Ghaby, said. “We believe it is important to support local breweries and communities.”

Small and independent craft brewers provide nearly 100,000 jobs and in 2008 the total taxable barrels of beer produced by craft brewers was 8,596,971.  Additionally, many craft brewers go to incredible lengths and great costs to lessen their impact on their surrounding environment and community.  Representing 4.0 percent by volume and 6.3

Brix 42 Plans to Unveil its Newest Brew, an IPA Scheduled to be Tapped May 11th in Celebration of American Craft Beer Week

Brix is asking the public to come in and sign the ‘Declaration of Beer Independence’ May 11th – 17th.

Pasadena, CA (April 20, 2009) – Brix 42 restaurant and bar is gearing up for the annual celebration of American Craft Beer Week May 11 – 17th, a national celebration highlighting the culture and contributions of beer. To kickoff this event, Brix will be serving its all-new, home brewed IPA as well as a long list of other beers including four brews from their in-house brewery.

In celebration of this event Brix is giving away free food Monday, May 11th, from 4:00 – 10:00 p.m. In addition, there will be brewery tours, the release of a special IPA, all-night happy hour specials on Tuesday, $3 house draft beer all week, and nightly entertainment.

Brix houses a combination Bavarian brewery10 BBLS (barrels) system with3 fermenter tanks and 5 serving tanks.

“A barrel of beer is 31 gallons and the standard size for a keg is a half-barrel,” brewer Robert Dos Santos said.  “Most brewpubs brew in seven or 10-barrel batches. Each serving tank in our brewery is 370 gallons.”

Brix 42 is currently brewing ales and lagers and uses the freshest all natural ingredients with no preservatives. Fine German malts are combined with American Hops, brewed in a steam kettle for better flavor then direct flame. Beers stay in tanks for a maximum time of 2 – 3 months for optimum freshness.

Brix brews five distinctive beers and are unique in their own right.

The all-new and exclusive IPA is an aggressive Indian Pale Ale that featuresunique citrus andherbal flavors. Its distinctivearoma highlights the earthy spiciness from hand selected American hops. A full-bodied and hoppy beer which incorporates three British malts to define the most exceptional profile.

The Blonde is a refreshing medium bodied beer and deep gold in color with an intensity of malt and hop flavors. The spicy floral hop aroma blends smoothly with the malty sweetness giving it a clean well-balanced crisp finish.

The American style Hefeweizen is pale gold in color and served unfiltered, this beer is fermented with authentic hefeweizen yeast. Brewed with malted wheat and barley for a unique bread-like character and 50 pounds of honey for a sweet delicate finish.

The Amber is a gently toasted ale with a touch of sweetness. This copper colored American Amber has a full malty flavor that is smooth and easy to drink. Top fermented by American Ale Yeasts to produce a fine and clean flavor.

The Red-An Irish style ale is brewed with a blend of imported English dark specialty caramel malts. A bit of domestic hops keeps the bitterness low to accentuate the clean flavor. The fruity aroma and complexity of flavors make for a truly superb beer.

The Munich Dunkel is the classic darker style of Munich, it’s slightly sweet and malty profile has a presence of dark roasted malts. Five different malts are combined to create this rich dark copper color and a medium bodied beer finished with English Hops.

The brewer, Roberto Dos Santos has over 15 years of experience working at Brewing Manufacturers, Micro-Breweries and Brew-Pubs. Soon Brix 42 will be unveiling a new beer, an American version of an IPA, which is a cascade of heavy hops and is a very aromatic beer with a bite!

American Craft Beer Week supports breweries that produce fewer than 2 million barrels of beer a year and are independently owned. Small and independent craft brewers provide nearly 100,000 jobs and in 2008 the total taxable barrels of beer produced by craft brewers was 8,596,971.  Additionally, many craft brewers go to incredible lengths and great costs to lessen their impact on their surrounding environment and community.  Representing 4.0 percent by volume and 6.3 percent in dollars of the overall beer market, consumer interest in the craft sector continues to grow, but not without challenges. According to the Brewers Association, the cost of operating a small brewery has increased over 39% November 2007 to November 2008.

Brix 42 is open seven days a week. Hours are nightly: Restaurant: 5:00 – 10:00 pm, happy hour: 4:00 – 7:00 pm, pub/lounge: 4:00 – midnight Sunday – Thursdays and until 2:00 a.m. on Friday and Saturday.

Hillstreet’s George Ghaby, Opens Brix 42, Pasadena’s only Restaurant and Brewery

Brix 42, a new concept in dining, offers home cooked dishes with a twist.

Pasadena, CA (April 9, 2009) – Pasadena residents are in for a treat with the opening of Brix 42, located in the heart of Old Town. George Ghaby, one of La Canada’s beloved restaurant operators has created Pasadena’s only full service restaurant and brewery reminiscent of NBC’s hit television show, Cheers, offering good food, good beer, and good times.

Ghaby, an entrepreneur at heart always had a vision of creating gathering places in communities where people could come in, relax, and enjoy fresh, delicious food. A lover of Pasadena himself, Ghaby wanted to offer residents a place where they could come together to enjoy a good meal outside of the corporate franchise restaurants located throughout Pasadena.

In 2008 Ghaby found himself standing in front of 42 De Lacey street in Pasadena and knew that his long-time dream of opening an upscale pub and restaurant in Pasadena was about to come true. Nestled amongst the bricks, Ghaby saw a place where he could create a warm, inviting pub atmosphere that served sophisticated, home-style food at affordable prices.

“The little details matter,” Ghaby says. “I want to make sure that every dish going out today looks the same as the dish going out tomorrow and in ten years from now.”

Coupling a classic American tradition of quality food and beer with an exciting lounge and nightly entertainment, Ghaby’s vision has been well received by Pasadena residents. Brix serves hardy plates of home-style food such as low cooked pot roast with garlic mashed potatoes, beer battered fish and house cut fries, and chorizo basted pork tenderloin served with sautéed broccoli. The chefs use the freshest seasonal ingredients that can be found at the farmer’s market.  Brix 42 houses its own brewery and uses all natural ingredients with no preservatives.

“I wasn’t looking for a brewery,” Ghaby says. “I feel like I inherited a house with a Cadillac in the garage.”

Brix’s brew master has over 15 years of experience working at brewing manufacturers, micro-breweries, and brew-pubs. He combines fine German malts with American hops, and brews them in a steam kettle for better flavor than direct flame. Beers stay in tanks for a maximum time of 2-3 months for optimum freshness.

Ghaby purchased his first restaurant in the early 90’s, a 50’s style diner in La Canada where he acted as a one-man show, serving as owner, chef, waiter, busboy, and dishwasher.  As business grew, Ghaby remodeled the diner into a home-style restaurant, and created La Canada’s infamous, Hillstreet Café, known for it’s home-style food, congeniality, and excellent service. Ghaby is bringing the same tradition excellence to Brix.

“This won’t be my last project,” Ghaby says. “I love creating new restaurants that are unique to the city and that speak to the people who live there.”

The restaurant, bar and lounge are open seven days a week. Hours are nightly: Restaurant: 5:00 – 10:00 pm, happy hour: 4:00 – 7:00 pm, pub/lounge: 4:00 – midnight Sunday – Thursdays and until 2:00 a.m. on Friday and Saturday.

Brix 42 Gastropub, Old Town Pasadena’s Newest “Hot-Spot”, Announces its Grand Opening Community Specials and Nightly Entertainment Schedule

Pasadena, CA (April 1, 2009) –Brix 42 Gastropub has rapidly become one of Old Town Pasadena’s well-known restaurants and hot-spots. Coupling a classic American tradition of good food and beer with an exciting lounge and nightly entertainment, residents of Pasadena have flocked to Brix for the past two weeks to taste the food and to stay for the fun.

Owner George Ghaby wanted to create a gathering place where people could enjoy good food and good times. “My favorite show was Cheers,” Ghaby says. “I wanted Brix to have that same feel. I wanted it to be place where people could have fun.”

And fun they’ve had. Ghaby, successful restaurateur, has put a twist on traditional bar games and has taken out the tired standards of the past by replacing them with modern day entertainment. Come in and dance to your favorite classic, old-school, hip hop, and new music spun by the house DJ.

Brix 42 has created a new concept in dining by creating a warm and inviting pub atmosphere that serves sophisticated, yet unpretentious food.  As a “getting to know you” special, Brix is offering a free appetizer or dessert (up to a $10 value) with the purchase of two entrees between 5 – 10pm served in the dining area.  The restaurant offers signature dishes like slow and low cooked pot roast with garlic mashed potatoes, beer battered fish and house cut fries, and chorizo basted pork tenderloin served with sautéed broccoli. Brix 42 brings brewing back to Pasadena

With Crown City Brewery and Gordon Biersch closed and Craftsman only brewing for other bars, the brewpub era in Pasadena seemed to have come to an end. But now Brix 42 has taken over the tanks left by the long-gone Pasadena Brewing Company and several other concepts, and brewmaster Roberto De Santos is brewing up unfiltered beers including Honey Hefeweizen, Golden Ale, Red beer, and Munich Dunkel. Thursday, the Amber Ale debuts, with an IPA coming soon. Tuesdays are happy hour prices all night long, while Thursdays have drink specials and $2 beers. While there’s a full menu including mussels and pizzas, Brix is more sports bar than gastropub, but with plenty of booths, it’s much more comfortable than Lucky Baldwin’s. Brewpubs are few and far between in L.A., so I thought it might be worth a mention. And if you’re jonesing to hear some Bachman Turner Overdrive, Led Zeppelin and more hits of the ’70s, this is your place.
