Beyond the Olive Pasadena Grand Opening

Even though the store has been opened for over a month, today was the Grand Opening of Beyond The Olive in Pasadena.

This store is not a franchise and offers some fantastic products most related to olives and balsamic vinegar.  They even have a real olive tree out front.  One of the main attractions is the bulk section where you can buy in bulk i.e. you buy a bottle and then fill it and pay per ounce prices.

The bottles you buy are dark primarily to keep the oil preserved. Light is a major enemy of olive oil and can cause the oil to turn rancid if exposed to light, direct sunlight for extended period of time.

Alexandra Devarenne, our good friend and recognized olive oil expert, will be in the store all day to guide olive oil tastings, lead discussions on olive oil and answer your questions.

A little bit about Alexandra:
AlexandraAlexandra Kicenik Devarenne is a freelance olive oil consultant and educator. An olive researcher with the UC Cooperative Extension until recently, she is a trained olive oil taster and performs does sensory analysis of olive oil for research. She also serves as a judge in competition, and teaches olive oil production, processing and evaluation. Her many writing credits include research papers, educational materials, UC olive production publications and magazine articles. Alexandra is a member of the advisory board of the UC Davis Olive Center and serves as the California coordinator for Association 3E, an organization devoted to olive oil excellence.
