AT&T DSL Troubles

Once again we are having troubles with our DSL service from AT&T. Starting at about 7am on Saturday July 18, 2009 the service went out.

Basically my router could not obtain an ip address and if it did there was no internet available.

I went online with the another internet connection and was able to connect and open a chat with AT&T, was that an ordeal, in some ways worse than talking to someone in India. Anyway, after about 30min they opened a ticket and somewhat acknowledged there was a problem.

About 30 min later AT&T DSL line dept calls to tell me the line checks out ok. Well I figured the internet should be working, nope…. Apparently the line check is just to tell you that the line is not severed somewhere along the line. I could tell the AT&T DSL line was ok because the DSL would light up on the SpeedStream Modem 5100. I would get the Power, DSL, and Ethernet(router was connected).

So for the rest of the Saturday there was no internet on my home DSL from AT&T. I called again around 9pm and was told they had a group of people that had an outage an OCD equipment trouble. I expressed that I was troubled by their lack to repair this quickly.

So now at 8am on Sunday July 19 and it appears to be working again.

One thing I learned from this experience is the continued trouble with large providers to communicate with their users that there is a problem.

People feel pretty helpless when their internet goes out and have to try to communicate with the company.

Always keep the customer service number available for when there is trouble.
