Pasadena State of the Mulch – Transition Pasadena

Do you want more high-quality mulch more easily? Come share your ideas and concerns at State of the Mulch, Wednesday, October 8 at 7:00 PM at the Wright Auditorium inside the Pasadena Central Library.
Arborists trim our trees, shred what they trim, and haul that mulch to the landfill every day as waste. At the same time, residents are starting to spread a thick layer of tree mulch on lawns and then plant drought-tolerant plants into it to save water and money. But buying mulch in bags at a garden center is expensive. For lawn removal to scale up to meet the City of Pasadena Zero Waste and water conservation goals, homeowners need abundant free tree mulch.
To meet the needs of all, arborists, homeowners and the city, Mulch for the People, a project of Transition Pasadena, has planned a public meeting for all stakeholders to develop a program for making mulch more freely available. Gabriel Silva of Pasadena Public Works, Wendy DeLeon of Pasadena Water and Power and Marco Barrantes of La Loma Development will speak. Moderator Blair Miller will also invite the public to contribute ideas and concerns.
The library is located at 285 East Walnut Street Pasadena, CA 91101. Use street parking; library parking is for library patrons. Questions? Post or message at www.facebook.com/MulchForThePeople.
