Free Mulch For Pasadena Residents Every Month Through October
FREE MULCH AVAILABLE THROUGHOUT 2014 TO PASADENA RESIDENTS
PASADENA, Calif.—The City’s 2014 Mulch Give-Away Program provides free, fresh garden mulch to Pasadena residents throughout the year. The mulch is delivered by the Department of Public Works, www.cityofpasadena.net/PublicWorks, to Victory Park, 2575 Paloma St., southeast corner of the parking lot. Mulch is available at the park while supplies last, 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., beginning Feb. 14.
New loads of mulch will be delivered once per month in 2014 on March 14, April 11, May 9, June 6, July 18, August 1, September 12 and October 10. Residents should bring shovels, containers, gloves and eye protection to collect the mulch.
The Mulch Give-Away program is a free, environmentally friendly service for residents that uses the recycled trimmings from City street trees. Mulch is good for your garden and the environment, especially in the current drought conditions.
Mulch can help:
- Retain valuable moisture, saving both water and money on your utility bill
- Control soil erosion and slowly break down into beneficial nutrients for the soil
- Suppress weeds and make your garden more attractive
- Reduce the City’s carbon footprint by using less landfill space and truck trips to the landfill
- Increase Pasadena’s solid waste diversion rate.

Flash Boys: A Wall Street Revolt

— Excerpt, New York Times Sunday Magazine, April 6, The Wolf Hunters of Wall Street — NPR, Stock Market Rigged, says Michael Lewis, March 31 — Forbes, Michael Lewis is about to Disrupt the Politics of High Speed Trading, March 29 — Bloomberg BusinessWeek, High Speed Traders Rip Off Investors, Lewis says, March 31 Four years after his #1 bestseller The Big Short, MICHAEL LEWIS returns to Wall Street to report on a high-tech predator stalking the equity markets.
Flash Boys is about a small group of Wall Street guys who figure out that the U.S. stock market has been rigged for the benefit of insiders and that, post–financial crisis, the markets have become not more free but less, and more controlled by the big Wall Street banks. Working at different firms, they come to this realization separately; but after they discover one another, the flash boys band together and set out to reform the financial markets. This they do by creating an exchange in which high-frequency trading—source of the most intractable problems—will have no advantage whatsoever.

626 Night Market’s theme for 2014 is “Dream Big.” “As a team of dreamers, we hope to unite the community and encourage everyone to dream big with us. We wish to empower people to use our event as a platform to launch their dreams, whether it be through testing out a business idea as a vendor, performing on our stage, showcasing his/her art, or being a part of one of our community projects,” says Aileen Xu, spokesperson of the 626 Night Market. 626 Night Market will be continuing its community projects such as the “World’s Largest Cup of Boba Tea,” Short Film Contest, and Screenwriting Contest, as well as introducing new “Dream Big” special projects to be announced later this year.
626 Night Market is now accepting vendor and performance artists applications. Lower vendor rates start at $98 per day. Top vendors gross over $10,000 per event. Last year’s attendance averaged over 50,000 per event.
