Verizon iPhone on the way, AT&T in trouble?

Verizon is just hours from announcing that the iPhone will be available on its network.
For many this is a welcome sign as they have suffered with network and customer complaints on AT&T for many years. Will Verizon be able to handle the demand? Apparently Apple has been working to make this a successful experience for both companies and a win for consumers.
The proof will be when users start to use these devices. As we know the iPhone is bar far one of the most used devices for mobile smart phone web surfing.

Why would someone that is not in contract not switch to Verizon?
I will most likely switch to Verizon once I can order the phone.

AT&T – doesn’t offer the unlimited data plan?
Verizon – will offer an unlimited data plan

Dropped Calls:
AT&T – you drop calls in major metro areas, if you are like me you drop calls several times a day. Is AT&T really improving their network? I would have to say that in some cases yes, but I still drop calls at my home and throughout areas of Pasadena, Glendale and Burbank.
Verizon: Has the best network coverage as reported by Consumer Reports and others.

Verizon is larger than AT&T in subscriber base, not by much. Verizon was rated #1 in customer satisfaction and network. AT&T was rated last, with poor customer service and poor network service. The choice seems pretty clear.

Where is Apple in all of this? Are they busy working on a new device, are they working with Google to release devices on a future cell network? Possible a hybrid of Spring and a new spectrum?
