Tax Season: Software to Help You Get Through it

Well it’s that time of the year again.  Time to file our taxes and hopefully look forward to a satisfying return.  For many of us tax season is a big headache.  Are we not busy enough without worrying about filing taxes and making sure to get them right?  Luckily, TurboTax offers a free version of its tax calculation software for filing federal taxes.  You can find TurboTax Federal Free Edition at this link.

If you have a simple tax return to file (you don’t own a business/have investments etc.) you can use this free version, which you will find on the left side of the page.  I would consider this to be the best way to get your taxes done if you fall into the “simple” filing category.  There are also “Deluxe”, “Premier”, and “Home and Business” editions here for if you have more complex taxes to file.

TurboTax is a great choice for filing your taxes, but you do still have some options available if you would like to try something else.  Another great tax preparation program is completetax.com.  It also offers a free version for the simpler tax forms.  CompleteTax is easy to use.  It directs you along and asks for your information in an easy to follow, step-by-step manner.  The paid options offer chat support for questions you may have while filing.  Overall, it is a great system for helping you to prepare your tax filing.

In the end the software you choose is up to you.  We would recommend TurboTax, and it is the most well-known solution, but you should realize that there are others out there if TurboTax doesn’t seem like the right fit for you.  Tax preparation software can ease the “headache” of tax season, just be sure to find the software that suits your needs and tastes.
