Prop 37 – All Not Lost We Must Fight On

While California Proposition 37 has lost to require GMO labeling, all is not lost. The supporters of Prop 37 gave a good fight and educated and brought awareness about our food.

It was good to see that companies like Whole Foods supported Prop 37, but can they do more, as a large  company and buyer of food products, could they not require their producers to provide labeling? If not Whole Foods then maybe other natural food companies, if we know where the ingredients come from, then there should be no reason why a labeling on the shelf, product, or website could provide this information.

It is clear that GMO pose a threat to our food system, and the vengeance with which the No on Prop 37 campaign ad blitz persuaded and put fear in consumers with talking heads, the ad that probably did the most damage was that showing that consumers would pay an average of $400 more in grocery bills if Prop 37 had passed.

I’ll be watching and eager to continue the fight, it is not over. These companies that supported the No on 37 need see that the 47% that supported the proposition are serious.

One thing we can do is not buy from these companies at least try.

See the list here.

These companies own countless brands that appear our shelves, but some like Dow, Dupont,  Basf, and Monsanto produce the ingredients for products that appear on our shelves.  While it may be difficult to not buy from all of these organizations, thinking twice before buying from them.

For those that claim that Prop 37 was poorly written, then maybe it is time to get both sides together and make it right.

The 314 contributions made totaled close to $46 million! That is a drop in the bucket compared to the impact consumers can have if they wake up and see that proper GMO labeling is needed.

If 60 other countries require GMO labeling or even ban these products why couldn’t the US do the same? Ask our re-elected President to help us. Or ask The First Lady, Michelle Obama, to help with a national effort.
