At last nights meeting the board of the Nantucket HOA decided to go with Terminix to tent and treat for termites. Against my vocal opposition the board agreed to pay over $20, 000 for the treatment of the four buildings located at 1370 E. Orange Grove. in Pasadena.

There are two problems with the decision of the board.
1. Is there really a problem that has to be treated as sold by Terminix(hard sell tactics)
2. Can the board reserves bear another hit after installing a new fence at a cost of over $25, 000 and the roof at another $20,000.

The board appears to have lost the ability to make a reasonable decision. Just doing things without the full consent of all the owners.
Several times during the meeting it was stated, “well if a unit doesn’t allow us in we will get a locksmith and get in”. These types of comments are totally unacceptable. The board has accepted the Terminix agreement which I have serious problems with. The board didn’t even find out when the last fumigation or treatment was done. I recall there was a treatment several years back.

I am totally against the fumigation. It requires homeowners to move out, it is dangerous, damage will be caused to the complex and it is an expense we cannot afford.

I have been asking for the drain from the front of the complex to be fixed from running water into my garage for years, nothing has been done. Also the garage doors are dangerously heavy, snapping springs every year and causing me and other owners to be stuck in their garages. These garage doors need to be replaced with lighter weight metal/aluminum doors.

The board really did not even read the contract. There is a mandatory arbitration clause and Terminix is known for their stronghold tactics with attorneys going to whatever measures are required.

Did the board realize that the guarantee is only good with the yearly fees for each service, one for the fumigation.
