Cornell Winery & Tasting Room

Some info on the:

Cornell Winery & Tasting Room

A soulful retreat for those people who demand character, texture, history and color in their lives.

Cornell was born from a connection. This dude, aka Morgan, has a father who owned a building in the Santa Monica Mountains off of Mulholland Hwy. Quite frankly this was an area that was not familiar to me even though I was born and raised in Southern California. The three of us were thinking about making a barrel of wine and using the building as the location to do so. I took one look and started dreaming, I kept my dreams to myself but after a few weeks and knowing that the wine making was probably not going to happen, I presented my idea to the boys. They both loved the idea and we all started brain storming on just how to make it happen. With three chiefs in the mix it was evident that someone had to take the lead so I put my head down and developed a business plan that was then presented to the owners son on a more professional level, he loved it and pledged his support. All we had to do now was convince his 89 year old father that the plan was worth his support.

I met Tom and was quite surprised to find him very sharp and extremely witty. I presented my idea to him in more of a story board than a serious business plan. My approach worked and Tom gave me a lease that was what I had dreamed about and I was off to the races.

It has been just about two years and Cornell Winery & Tasting Room is completed! We are now open as a specialty wine shop, featuring wines and producers from the Santa Monica Mountains, Art Gallery, we have more than 50 pieces of original art on the walls, and gift shop. The building looks like an early 1900’s barn complete with antique farm equipment and surrounding structures to support the look and feel. The structure is made of split faced cinder block which looks like rock, giving the interior a cave like feel. The building is topped with corrugated steel and even has a church spire in the back.

We are located in the middle of what is called “The Three magical Miles”. This area is marked between Paramount Ranch, home to the original movie set from some of the earlier Westerns, and the Rock Store, Steve McQueen’s old hangout from the 70’s that now is host to several hundred motorcycle enthusiast every Sunday along with Jay Leno.
