Santa Barbara Blueberries

– Grown with care at Restoration Oaks Ranch

No Pesticides – No Sprays

Santa Barbara Blueberry Farm is usually open to the public for U-PICK from early May to early August. For specific dates and current information please visit www.santabarbarablueberries.com. To place orders call (805) 693-9424.

The varieties of Southern Highbush Blueberries grown on our farm at Restoration Oaks Ranch are Biloxy, Bluecrisp, Emerald, Jewel, Millenia, Misty, O’Neal, Saphire, Sharpblue, Star, Southmoon and Windsor. We also raise Maru and Ochlockonee Rabitteye varieties.

Each variety has a slightly different flavor and slightly different ripening time, and each requires different amounts of chill during the winder. Depending on  the weather, our berries will begin ripening between kate April and mid-May.

To promote more effective cross-pollenization, we alternated the varieties as we planted the rows. For example, in our first field we planted a row of Misty and then a row of Sharpblue.  In our second field we alternated Bluecrisp, Emerald, Jewel, and Star continued this practice in subsequent fields with other varieties.

Berries from different varieties vary in flavor from sweet to slightly tart. Also, the color and shape of the leaves, and even the shape and the size of the plants, is noticeably different among varieties. Because the varieties are mixed in our fields, a delightful mix of flavors result when the berries are picked.

The Retreat House at Restoration Oaks Ranch is available to families, groups and organizations all year and will accommodate about 24 people. Guests can explore the 1,000 acre ranch on designated roads and trials, and among other experiences, observe the cattle and blueberry operation in season.
