The Blight of Shopping Carts

The Blight of Shopping Carts

No homeowner likes to see abandoned shopping carts in their neighborhood. So why is it that we find carts throughout the city? Are stores not being responsible with protecting their assets to prevent shoppers from taking the carts from their premises? Shopping carts are very expensive, costing hundreds of dollars.

Some stores have electronic barriers to prevent carts from leaving the property line of the store.

If you find an abandoned cart you can call the number on the cart, or (800) 252-4613, but like the recording says, not all stores are services, so you have no idea if they will come to pick up the cart, how much does it cost a store to retrieve these carts? Probably $100 or more per cart.

Is there better technology to keep the carts home?

Why do people take carts off the property?
