Within his most recent projects begun in 2005, artist Jay Mark Johnson produces photographic images that challenge the norms of perception. Throughout his career, in work spanning the disciplines of drawing and painting, printmaking, filmmaking, performance, architecture, and photography, he has made visible the intersection of human nature and society. Johnson holds a Master of Architecture degree from Tulane University in New Orleans. He studied and worked at the Institute for Architecture and Urban Studies in New York City. During the late 1970s and the early 1980s, his associations with architects Peter Eisenman, Rem Koolhaas, Aldo Rossi, Kenneth Frampton, Buckminster Fuller and Lebbeus Woods enabled him to explore questions of representation and time in both built and conceptual architecture.  In the late 1990s, the artist returned to graduate studies in Linguistic and Biological Anthropology at UCLA. Works of his are in the permanent collections of the MOMA in New York, the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C., the Art Institute of Chicago, as well as the Collection Frederick R. About TED

TED is an annual event where some of the world’s leading thinkers and doers are invited to share what they are most passionate about. “TED” stands for Technology, Entertainment, Design — three broad subject areas that are, collectively, shaping our future. And in fact, the event is broader still, showcasing ideas that matter in any discipline. Attendees have called it “the ultimate brain spa” and “a four-day journey into the future.” The diverse audience — CEOs, scientists, creatives, philanthropists — is almost as extraordinary as the speakers, who have included Bill Clinton, Bill Gates, Jane Goodall, Frank Gehry, Paul Simon, Sir Richard Branson, Philippe Starck and Bono.
