Pedestrian Safety – yielding to pedestrian

You need to stop at crosswalks.  The City of Alhambra is conducting a pedestrian walk sting.

What happens is the police setup an undercover officer/decoy to start to walk the crosswalk, if cars don’t stop once the pedestrian is in the crosswalk, the police will come after you and issue you a ticket.

There is some confusion about when and where the pedestrian should be before you must stop your car.

It is safe to stop at the crosswalk if you can start to slow down and come to a stop if you see the pedestrian proceeding to cross, i.e. walking in the direction of the crosswalk, placing a foot off the curb, already in the crosswalk.

If you are in the other side of lane traffic you must also stop.

As always it is best to play it safe, as a ticket for not yielding to a pedestrian is costly!!
