Apple has updated iTunes to 8.2.1 which includes a block preventing Palm Pre users from using iTunes music library on their Palm Pre.
Not sure I understand why Apple would do this other than to maintain control iTunes on their iPod, iTouch, etc.. It is like the walled garden mentality that gets companies in trouble. Why Apple is not open to having other devices access the iTunes library is perplexing.
The iTunes update 8.2.1 in particular blocks syncing of your iTunes library with a Palm Pre. Not sure what else is new.

Apple updated iTunes to Version 8.2.1 today, and in its usual cryptic style, said that the new version “provides a number of important bug fixes and addresses an issue with verification of Apple devices.”
Was this a smart move on Apple’s part, some would say yes. As it prevents unauthorized use by devices that are not officially supported to access the iTunes library. In addition if you don’t have an Apple device you shouldn’t be allowed to sync your iTunes library unless there’s an agreement in place….??
Some of the buzz /posts online:
it breaks tethering! Don’t update!!!!
This has nothing to do with the Pre… the blocking of the Pre was just a side effect of Apple stopping the iPhone 3GS from being Jailbroken. The encrypted verification scheme was in place for the 3GS, but the encryption keys were being dumped to the temp folder, which was necessary to jailbreak the 3GS. Now that they shored up that hole, it just happened to also block the Pre… get over yourselves… the only whiners are the Pre owners that were enjoying the good life off the back of the iTunes developers… Palm needs to make its own program and quit standing on the shoulders of geniuses!
iTunes is for iPods and iPhones. It’s that simple. If you bought a Pre knowing that Palm was allowing unlicensed syncs then your are a dumbass. If Palm started using Blackberry Manger would RIM stand by and let them? No, and neither should Apple. If you are the “I won’t use my iPod anymore!!! Waaah waah, never buying Apple product again” type of person the it’s you loss. Enjoy your future crappy mp3 player. The rest of the world won’t care that the small amount of pre owners are upset.
