I know we usually restrict ourselves to getting good deals at restaurants, but here’s a tip that may save you more money than any of our restaurant deals. When it comes to automotive knowledge our household is clueless. A few years ago a college aged daughter’s 5 year old Japanese car developed an awful shake. The dealer (who shall remain nameless) informed us that the axel was broken and the repair job would cost $4000! A friend recommended we go to Hugo Ojeda at Arroyo Tech for a second opinion. To our vast relief Hugo told us that the axel was fine and that the problem had nothing to do with the axel. He fixed the problem (total bill $595). Needless to say ever since, Hugo has been our go to guy for all things automotive. We have steered friends to him as well. Here are two of our friend’s experiences: one was told that she needed a new transmission ($1200) – Hugo’s correct diognosis – low transmission fluid (free), another was told he needed a new timing belt ($800) . Hugo told him his car didn’t even have a timing belt. The real problem was minor ($140). Obviously when it comes to car repair a lot of us are helpless and at the mercy of the sharks.
