NORTH HOLLYWOOD, CA–(Marketwire – July 24, 2009) – Props used in Hollywood films and TV series over the last 40 years from the collection of 20th Century Props will be up for auction at its North Hollywood, California location from July 28 through August 1, beginning each day at 9:30 a.m. (PDT).
The collection of some 93,752 pieces, insured for about $8 million, range from the rattan furniture set used in “The Golden Girls” to a desk owned by Howard Hughes from the movie “The Aviator” starring Leonardo DiCaprio. The pieces will be auctioned by Great American Group from 20th Century Props’ 118,000 square-foot warehouse and live via web cast at www.greatamerican.com with simultaneous bidding.
“This is a time to honor and recognize 20th Century Props led by Mr. Harvey Schwartz,” said Mark Weitz of the Los Angeles-based company Great American Group. “We expect interest from around the world as this is an historic collection of Hollywood memorabilia.”
The five-day auction will also include an Inspection Preview on Saturday, July 25 and on Monday, July 27 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and from 8-9:30 a.m. on each day of the sale. A free catalog will also be available in advance of the auction at www.greatamerican.com. Another on-line “e-bay” style auction will kick-off at the conclusion of the five-day live event, also at www.greatamerican.com.
The 20th Century Props collection features a number of high profile items ranging from replicas of landmarks including the Hollywood Sign, Eiffel Tower, Statue of Liberty and the Liberty Bell to Dr. Evil’s desk from the Austin Powers movies. Unusual items include a decontamination suit, Old West stage coach, vintage toy plane and a Frank Gehry fish sculpture. Industrial, medical and restaurant/bar items will also be up for bid.
Furniture by notable designers including: Charles Eames, Herman Miller, Mies van der Rohe and Heywood Wakefield will be up for auction.
