Electric Car Parade

Announcing a new Meetup for LA/OC Alternative Energy Meetup Group!

What: Electric Car Parade

When: January 17, 2009 9:30 AM

Where: Click the link below to find out!

Meetup Description: Plug In America (www.PlugInAmerica.org) is organizing an “Inaugural Parade West” on Saturday, January 17th, and we invite all RAV drivers and Electric Car fans to join our parade!

We have secured the Santa Monica Civic Center with its 40 kw solar carport and charging stations used by Santa Monica’s fleet of EVs. Dozens of production EVs, including several Teslas and a few Vectrix bikes will parade down a few of Santa Monica’s main boulevards. Then we’ll hold a press conference at the Civic Center.

Our press conference and parade will tell Congress, Detroit and President Obama that America wants the cleanest cars in the world now. We can and must replace oil with clean, domestic electricity, stimulate the economy for the long term and create jobs in the process. We will emphasize the importance of using renewable, clean electricity to replace foreign oil.

We are staging the vehicles at the Civic Center at 9:00 a.m. and expect everything to be completed around 11:30am. If you don’t have an EV, but want to add to the crowd for the press conference, please come and support us!

The Civic Center is located at the intersection of Main St. and Pico Blvd. Entrance is on Main. Parking in the lot is $8.

Santa Monica Civic Auditorium
1855 Main Street
Santa Monica, CA 90401-3209

OUR MEETUP GROUP WILL MEET IN FRONT OF THE BOC OFFICE AT THE CIVIC CENTER AT 930AM.
LOOK FOR ME AND OTHERS WHO RSVPED YES.

AFTER THE PARADE – WE WILL HAVE LUNCH AT JULIANO’S RAW RESTAURANT AT 1230PM IN SANTA MONICA.

Largest EV Parade Ever – Pre-Inaugural Weekend

Saturday January 17th – 9:30 am – Santa Monica Civic Center

Fellow Clean Car Supporter,

Please Join Us! We’ve got plenty of reasons to celebrate. A new year. A new administration. Martin Luther King’s Birthday. And we have a message for Congress, Detroit, and President-elect Barack Obama: America wants pure electric and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles; the most fuel-efficient cars ever made.

In the largest event of its kind, Plug In America has assembled over 60 plug-in vehicles to rally and then drive in formation through city streets.

You may have heard this event mentioned in the LA Times, Wired, Edmunds, or in various blogs and magazines. However, we wanted to send a special alert to all our loyal supporters who are lucky enough to live within driving distance of this event.

Don’t expect any clown cars at this parade.

See more than two-dozen Toyota RAV4 EVs, three Tesla Roadsters, two Vectrix motor scooters, one Zero Motorcycle, and two Phoenix SUTs. Keep your eyes open and you may spot a prototype Mitsubishi iMiEV, a prototype Ford Escape plug-in hybrid electric, a converted 1971 Porsche, the “Solar Taco” Tacoma pickup, and more.

Hear Director Chris Paine and Senator Fran Pavley speak at the press conference. (Chris’ crew will also be filming the event!)

Donate to the organization that is pushing hardest for the electric car movement. The event is free, but donations will help defray costs such as a $2K bill for a city police escort. Donations of at least $100 will get you a ride in a brand new Tesla (these spots are limited, so sign up now!) or a rider spot in one of the EVs in the parade. Donations of $50 include a free gift that you can pick up at our booth at the press conference including one of the following: 1) A copy of the book Plug-in Hybrids; the car that will recharge America; 2) A copy of the DVD “Who Killed the Electric Car?” or 3) A mini Tesla Roadster. If you are unable to attend and would still like to contribute, your gift can be mailed.
