City of Alhambra, CA launches recycling rewards program, becoming the fifth city in California to do so.

Why are more cities not doing programs like this?  Residents can earn points that can then be redeemed for gift cards, etc..

If you reward people for taking action eventually it will become part of a routine and the rewards are no longer necessary, or at least that is the thinking.   If something becomes part of a regular behavior.

If you are a resident of Alhambra and live in a single-family household, you can sign up on the Recyclebank website, register your home recycling account and begin logging your green actions.

Keeping the rewards local is also good for local businesses to boost business.  If I earn a reward from a business there’s a good chance that I will spend more than the value of the credit.
